Sounds like it is a potential leak IMO that needs addressing. The border needs to be 'watertight' as per the PMs wording.  I would have thought it was common sense for them to at least self isolate, if they are interacting with the public on those flights, some who are coming in who are still testing positive. We know that non-symptomatic  people can pass it on.  We also have to remember that most cases in NZ can be traced back to people coming into NZ on planes, so we have to learn from what has occurred prior to the lockdown that allowed it to spread.

It always puzzled me that they see two rows ahead and 2 behind as vulnerable, but cabin crew walk everywhere

Today I received a flyer in the postbox from someone who is organisating a Covid 19 meetup with drink for this Sunday out on the verge (wide verge) in the street. It says people need to bring chairs but bubbles must be a strict 2 metres apart from one another, and to also bring drinks, but it doesn't say who is organising it .

I didn't think this was permitted while in level 4, or level 3 for that matter, as I would have thought this would be defined as a gathering. What are other peoples thoughts on this? Other people may also be doing this in other parts of the country, as a bit of a 'celebration' to be ending the level 4 lockdown, so I do wonder if the government needs to be sending out some form of message about people not holding gatherings like this if not permitted in level 4 and 3.

Suggest watching entire Q&As. This was addressed.

Think of the staff numbers you need up the sleeve to fufill every flight with an entire fresh crew because the last one is forced home for 14days.

And Siouxie said 'just don't' to drive drinks. But the 'talk over the fence yo your neighbour' has been attributed to a nice thing to do by the PM.

Take it as you will. Many are having drinks and or concerts from driveways despite both. You line up for 20mins exposure at the supermarket 2m appart...

Re today's update.  As per my post in the data analysis thread, the six new cases announced in the press briefing today included only 4 with a 'Date of report' being yesterday (3) or this morning (1).  So down to just 3 (local & total) with a 'Date of report' = 21 Apr (yesterday).  Trend vs 'Date of report'  looks positive (#2467816).

And unless I heard it wrong a bunch attributed to the repatriation of known cases from cruise ship. So making the 'real' number like.. 2?

Thats what I heard, with the others being again "known cluster"

Exactly. The 2 rows ahead and behind has also been shown to not be a good way to detect vulnerability, as has been previously discussed on this thread with plane seating diagrams. After SARS, which isn't as contagious as COVID, analyisis showed that people who developed it from a single infected person, were scattered throughout the plane.

I'd say that this sounds like a stupid thing to do.

On the plus side, they're doing 1/10 the number of flights, so they do have a lot of staff available.

I wonder whether a good soapy shower and change of clothes between flights would be adequate? It wouldn't change the chances of getting infection in their lungs, but would stop them carrying it from one flight to the next. So also add an N95 mask. But presumably if there's an infected passenger on a flight, then the aircraft itself is infected. So the aircraft would also need to be cleaned (disinfected) after every flight.

For those who are looking to catch up, refresh their memory, source quotes or check specific bits of info, all of the press conferences are located here ( back to around the start of level 4 lockdown )

https://www.beehive.govt.nz/feature/covid-19-updates

It has both the video and written transcriptions, including reporters questions ( the transcriptions tend to come out late the same day, first thing the following morning)

For us its steady as she goes and moving with caution.

As UK has a day of over 800 deaths , they still seem to not have sorted out basics of their response.
Edit -- Missed a bit , I meant to also note this number was also a fail of there response in that its uncertain as their system to count is not sorted.--

Official Self Isolation Advice still says 7 Days and you are good to go! https://www.bbc.com/news/health-52366190

""The guidance says people should stay at home and avoid contact with others for seven days if they develop symptoms.""

The scale of these numbers, and the distressing reports from hospitals.

Its doubly sad for the families blighted by these deaths and sacrifices made by those at the front line, that's its become a political point to minimize.
Never mind any long running issues that recovered might have that we don't know yet.

We don't know how lucky we are, hopefully we can continue to be lucky.

Geektastic: He once hassled me for over 2 years about £10 I borrowed off him (about $20)

This sounds a lot like the joke about the boss complaining to one of his employees that "I've been sitting here watching you for over three hours and you've done absolutely nothing in that time".

I guess they have to go after a proxy since they can't charge Donald John Brinkley Trump with pushing snake oil.

We had one of those, checked with the Neighbourhood Watch office first and they said it was OK, everyone brought their own cup of tea and kept well apart. I wasn't too enthusiastic about it, but we have a number of older people who have been in lockdown for a lot longer than a month and they really enjoyed the first social contact in a long time. In terms of checking with Neighbourhood Watch, I don't know how official or unofficial this policy is, meaning at what level the decision was made.

Will trump be called as witness for the defense.

Unfortunately the usual natural healing people are out in force with various 'cures' pity we don't have strict laws and enforcement in this area.

I do seem to see the anti-vax crowd pushing all sorts of conspiracy theories and false cures like mad as they have no care for suffering they cause.

Bad idea. Don't call Trump to do anything. Any exposure he has he hijacks and turns it into some very serious campaigning.

A very interesting study here on Aussie poo (OK - municipal waste).
The results are pretty consistent with the numbers of diagnosed/confirmed cases known in the community.
There's obviously some pretty big assumptions made with quantifying RNA fragments in the waste stream to the amount of viral RNA shed by an infected person, but without reading and doing a (very - in my case) amateur review on the stats, I'm pretty comfortable with the result showing detection estimate in the range of under half to under double known cases in the catchment area.  This looks like it could be a very useful future mass community screening tool for NZ.

It's a pre-print (not peer reviewed) - but IMO it's a goodie:
