I wouldn't be happy with travel to Australia just yet... Keep an eye on VIC and NWS folks.

Fred99:

Basically yes - NZ crew are exempt from quarantine if they meet specified criteria:

We don’t have to self quarantine back in NZ. However all I’ve done is out and back trips across the Tasman, don’t even get off the plane (except to do the preflight walk-around).

If required to overnight in an overseas port we have our own escorted transport to the hotel, go to our rooms and remain locked in there until time to leave. We must only get room service food, which must be left outside the room for us to collect. Our company provides hand sanitiser and wipes to wipe hard surfaces while in the room.

As the airline I work for is Australian based, the reverse applies to them coming here, don’t quarantine at home and must quarantine in the hotel at their overnight port.

Summary: despite Trump assurances, "What do you have to lose," more likely to kill you than prevent Covid-19.

Ummm, my reading is that what it says is that giving hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine to covid-19 patients is more likely to kill them than doing nothing.

There's certainly no measure of whether it *prevents* covid-19, since it was administered to people in hospital who already had covid-19. But perhaps you could say it more likely to kill you than *cure* covid-19. And, since it about doubles your mortality risk, you could even say that taking hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine is about as likely to kill you as covid-19 itself.

And you could also say that about 140 people died to disprove this theory.

FyI the Indian medical research Council recommends hydroxyQ to be taken by frontline health staff for prevention.

I'm not here to start an evidence debate on a geek forum, just being factual of what's going on it there.

Winston Peters wants level 1 now and the Tasman bubble now. We know he wants those, but it was a sooner than later thing, not a now thing, AFAIK. Seems that he is exercising his right in the Coalition while also grabbing some brownie points with National? I think we all want the Tasman bubble, and sooner than later, but is it time to have non isolated free travel from AUS to NZ? Makes the recent post on aircrew seem long redundant. We need to be careful here

Currently I would be happy with travel to QLD,WA,SA,TAS and ACT.... VIC and NSW have still got obvious community transfer.... they need to drive their active case numbers down some more before I would be happy having a fully open border with them...

The aforementioned Australian States don't want to open their borders with VIC and NSW so I am somewhat at a loss on why we would want to.

Yep, and QLD has locked the borders to all states? I feel AUS in total, is probbaly ok to recieve Kiwis, as we must surely be such a low risk. Probabaly not ideal to let NZ in when other states are at various stages, thats a bit delicate. For us, when these Kiwis return, thats a worry. Me, I WFH, so if I went there, its no biggie for me to self isolate at home for two weeks, but its starts getting messy when we go back to these rules, or is that an option? Short term it would seem to be, btu wont suit everyone

This is a very extreme view

Unemployment could rise to 18 per cent, house prices could halve, and the viability of the banks could be "called into question" if the coronavirus prompted a further period of economic lockdowns, the Reserve Bank has warned.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/business/121635138/insurers-and-nonbank-deposit-takers-reserve-banks-biggest-worry

Particularly when we are getting zero cases daily, are seeing L2 restrictions ease and have a possisble and likely L1 date in less than 4 weeks.

Hey, don't worry, its better than Treasury's worst case that had unemployment at nearly 26% if we stayed in Level 4 for 6 months.... I'm not sure if they included the damage and destruction from the riots and general breakdown in civilisation that would have also happened with such a restriction....

The 18% number will be the "what if is all goes bad" option that all forecasters are now putting in, (just to cover themselves)

So if WP wants us to be in level 1 asap, what's the difference between level 2 and level 1? economically speaking - ie not the funerals and the social rugby for example, but the businesses

He is the Racing Minister. A dollar to win on 1 thanks and a dollar to win on 2 as well

It will be fascinating though. He will make himself viable for both parties. Both parties will be aware of the billions he may cost and of the no goes he will create.

Whats worse, a  NZF ball and chain for 3 years, or a minority Govt? Given that 99% of goings on will be recovery related and National and Labour will have very similar policies in relation to employment and infrastructure, shovel ready etc, is it a slam dunk that a minorty Goivt would be avoided at all costs?

I dont see a huge amount of difference. But full stadiums for sports and events are the obvious ones. Reducing compliance costs too, for say smaller shops/bars that need to manage single serve spread seats etc, thats costly

well then the obvious questions the journalists should be asking at press conference time is

- what is stopping us going to level 1 and how soon can they get sorted?

the answer better not be "because we can only contact trace 100 people" lol

i bet there are reporters reading this thread lol

Basically Hospo can't work at Level 2, the distancing requirements break their economic models with not enough punters through the door to cover the fixed costs...

Distancing on construction and manufacturing worksites ( like meatworks etc) slows everything up... public transport is also a mess,  ( planes should have already got rid of the middle seat block as they can trace everyone)

Yeah, and, completely unrelated, NZF got big donations from the racing industry. I think horse racing is a big part of him wanting open trans-Tasman travel. Horses and trainers and jockeys to come and go to the big races, buyers to come here and buy yearlings, etc.
