Batman:
Geektastic: Soames Island could be restarted as a quarantine site...!

Is that a real island?

Yes.  Obviously not a Wellingtonian!  Or was that asked tongue in cheek?

@DS248 I think he was just joking on the "Soames" spelling...

Actually I've never heard of the island.

It's a great idea. Again I'd bet a house payment, we have at least one escape artist who, given half a chance, will break quarantine.

concordnz:

Many countries already require evidence of Yellow Fever immunizations or immunity status (these countries are free of these diseases & want to stay this way)
NZ/COVID-19 Is exactly the same.

The obvious difference is there is no vaccination or proof of immunity status available for SARS-COV-2. When there is, then proof of such at the border may allow entrants to avoid a 14 day quarantine.

From memory, international health cards are inspected on arrival.

Rotoroa Island in Aucklands Hauraki Gulf looks quite nice.

In 1911 The Salvation Army opened Rotoroa Island as a rehabilitation facility for alcoholics. Rotoroa Island was the first and longest running addiction treatment centre, proudly serving over 12,000 New Zealanders.

During this period Rotoroa Island was largely self sufficient; an early model of self-sustainability. Vegetable gardens, working farms and sprawling orchards provided plenty of fresh food to the island's occupants.

https://www.rotoroa.org.nz/visit/history#:~:text=In%201911%20The%20Salvation%20Army,early%20model%20of%20self%2Dsustainability.

Hmm, self sufficient, just in case.

No longer used by Salvation Army and run by historic trust.

The Barracks are long gone, they'd all have to be in tents....

How about transferring the prison population to the Kermadecs and then re-using the prisons as quarantine? 😇

It's a good thing we didn't allowed the British to nuke it in 1955 with the largest atomic bomb they had.

concordnz: A warning to all the Armchair critic's.
At some point one person is likely to get through.

What is the plan & protocol in place for when this happens.

This would go a huge way to reducing fear & developing public confidence (& knowledge) around this important matter.

The plan has to be contact trace and isolate.

This will only be effective if contact tracing can be done quickly and effectively. We all have been asked to keep a personal diary to help in this. There is also the COVID-19 app that helps you keep a track of where you have been and will speed up contact tracing. BUT it is not being widely used or promoted. Slowly more businesses and places have put up QR codes but it still seems a minority in the Wellington CBD and even those that have them up don't always put them in a place that make them easy to scan.

Many people I speak to do not understand the reason for the app or the QR codes.

We all need to push to get this system widely accepted and working so that when the inevitable happens the task of contact tracing is easier and any spread shutdown.

I haven't watched this earlier...

So the guy who broke the lockdown twice decides to kick the guy who actually did the good work?

Damn you David Clark.
