Just wondering
If the family that did the recent quarantine runner get convicted , will Aus ban them from re-entering Australia ?
Aus takes a dim view of Kiwis with criminal convictions .

That would be a sweet karmic slap in face :-)

I'd say there was a very good chance of that happening: they'd be refused entry on the grounds of 'bad character'

Talk about "unintended consequences"

Unless the judge says no conviction to prevent further problems in life... Don't they do it with undeserving athletes?

New Zealander tested positive after arriving in South Korea. Still waiting for confirmation, more information.

Could it be something caught during the flight? False positive? Community?

There don't appear to have been any direct AKL-ICN flights on the 23rd or 24th,(neither Korean air or Air NZ are currently running scheduled services)   so the most direct route would have been via Singapore?, but they could have gone via a number of other routes...

I am guessing there will be more info given or more questions at the 1pm briefing

Batman: Apparently lock down was illegal?

Too early to say, the court will decide.

Too bad. If it is deemed to be illegal, the law is wrong. Or some feel/interpret that a worldwide pandemic that is growing more now than ever is not that important enough to allow a Govt to take some control. What if we got invaded, would that make a difference if invading troops were walking through our streets?  Well they were, invisible troops. The outcome shows that the correct measures were taken

Aspects of it. Not all of it.

Appears about the wording used on paper, vs what was said at the PM standups being picked on as defence. Because the way she said it in their eyes presumed enforcement. When the paper didn't have the same alingments written on it

It cannot be a true reading of the statements made, that this was all voluntary, Mijatov said. The Prime Minister told the nation, “This has to happen, and there will be no tolerance”, he said.

The Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment decided what essential services could continue to operate and Borrowdale is expected to say that, at least to some extent, the delegation of that power was unlawful.

But it put us in our current position. Dragging this out just gives artillery to the anti government anti Covid believers to fight it if a 2nd round were to come about. Bring on the US public revolutions.

Of great interest to law school academics and those with way to much time on their hands,

As for its implications for real life not so much,

If the review determines that the way the decisions were made was not legal, they will be made in a different way next time....

If people start to bring cases saying they were illegally detained, I would suspect that parliament will retrospectively legalise them ......

I suspect the people who were charged with lockdown offences in the early days of Level 4 would probably disagree.

You can't really have the Prime Minister get up and threaten people with detainment for not complying with an order that hasn't got correct legal standing.

Turning a blind eye to it because the PM is being praised for being an effective communicator isn't a sound basis for constitutional conduct.

Expecting to see lots of Karens providing comments on the nightly news saying how essential it is that we have our rights to get the disease upheld...
