"Health Minister Chris Hipkins frustrated and disappointed by misleading border testing advice"

Hipkins said this morning testing at the border had not been happening at the rate the Government had been asking for, or at the level the Government was told was happening.

"We were told several weeks ago that testing of all staff at the Jet Park were being tested every week."

So sure of that advice was Hipkins that he put it in a June 23 press release, headlined: "New Covid-19 testing strategy to keep New Zealand safe".

Hipkins said one of the barriers was a reluctance among staff to be tested.

That had changed since the new outbreak hit New Zealand's shores on Tuesday, he said.

Over the past two days, the majority of staff working in managed isolation or quarantine have been tested.

The rest will get a test within the next 24 hours.

Make it a requirement for the job.

I dunno about the hubris. Did we really gloat how good we are? No doubt some did, but I didnt see that as a general Kiwi thing. The JAFA thing, I also dunno. Its part of Kiwi culture, I dunno how serious we take that. Id be disappointed if non Aklders are chuckling. I can see what Matt said applying to politics here though, especially election year. That's painfully evident.

Re the whole farm, Id say many paddocks. The elimination strategy avoids months and months and months of continual economic interruption. That harsh 5 weeks was worth it, we wont have a harsh but less harsh 18 months + to deal with.

we maybe not chuckling but it is another reason im glad i dont live there anymore.

More importantly, how come Bloomfield and a significant number of MoH senior staffer still have jobs? The way the MoH has been allowed to get away with utter lawlessness and incompetence throughout the COVID saga is staggering.

Why should Bloomfield resign because some people decided to be slack? There is as far as I have seen no direct correlation between someone not getting tested at the border and his general competence at doing his job.

If it had been made a lawful requirement to have the test in level 1 all the social justice warriors would've been out in force screaming how rights were being impinged.

Hemi88: Now it’s racist to be put into quarantine🤬

That was a weird question. It is quite a stretch to think that improved management of confirmed cases and their families is due to racism, rather than learning's from the past.

Allowing sick people to isolate at home was one of the failures noted from the early day's in Wuhan. Frankly we should have been doing this from the start.

Anybody find this press conference really strange?

It started with Chris Hipkins state had a dry throat, and being unable to talk clearly. (A sore throat is a COVID-19 symptom, and the messaging has been clear that people who are unwell should stay home).

I know the odds of Chris Hipkins being infected with covid-19 is low, but the situation reminded me of Iran in February: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-51628484

The press conference ended with comment about this the podium being a source of only reliable truthful information, without acknowledging the erroneous information provided in the past couple of days (Wrong info about Pakuranga College infection, Alluded that Wellington Ramon noodle restaurant social media posts were specilation)

https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/new-zealand/2020/08/coronavirus-chris-hipkins-explains-how-pakuranga-college-got-wrongly-named-in-friday-s-covid-19-briefing.html

Despite the above I still like Chris Hipkins more than his predecessor.

More panic buying... :)

Inventiva: Sex dolls demand surged in quarantine but not just for singles

During the lockdown, there has been a huge demand surge in sex dolls and the prices are rising in number as well. Well, you will be shocked to hear that the surge in sex dolls is just not limited to the ones who are single. Married men are buying them too and here, we are breaking it down to you.

Sex doll sales have jumped since quarantine started to the degree that one company is seeking to take to keep up with demand.

Sex Doll Genie has received “hundreds” more inquiries than normal in the last eight months, from both couples and single people. The company found a 51.6% increase in requests from unmarried men in February and March, with a 33.2% pre-tax growth in orders set by spouses in April.

New York Post: Out-of-work bartenders now serving swanky cocktails in NYC parks

...With the indoor space of the New York’s bars currently closed for business, the city’s more social citizens are now seeking spots beyond their homes to safely imbibe. As a result, the 526 acres of Prospect Park has been transformed into the city’s boozy new hot spot....

The advice on how much testing was being done comes from, presumably, the MoH. And he's ultimately accountable for the operations of the MoH. From a policy level, frankly the MoH has been asleep at the wheel to the point where testing is for those people working at the border/ports etc is only being directed/mandated now. That's a sackable offence for me. The testing rate in the population overall has also been low and has only been belatedly picked up after the recent cluster.

By my books, Bloomfield is no hero.

Meanwhile, imbeciles are out flouting lockdown rules again - link

Why isn't the police out arresting these people? And for once "Good Kiwis" can't blame all the "lazy" and "fat" so-and-sos again. A lot of the crowds are in areas like Mission Bay, Kohimarama, and Takapuna. Why is that Takapuna Beach Cafe (a well known and easily identifiable entity from the photo of people lining up for coffee in the article) getting away with letting people line up for coffee?
