concordnz: The worst thing an elderly person could do is ride a bus or Train - they are the very people at 'worst' risk. Far better they take a taxi - or have a designignated family member drive them.

And for those who could, stay home at all times. This is a lockdown Level 3, not a holiday. If you are at risk and can arrange for someone to safely deliver food/goods to your doorstep, do it. If not, then try to minimise going out, contact with others at all times.

Level 3 means people stay home, with their bubble, other than essential movements - work, essentials shopping. You can have one extended bubble and they cannot have any other extended bubble. Otherwise STAY HOME and when outside keep social distancing.

People are thinking Auckland Level 3 means free for all, FFS. It seems some people are acting like idiots now.

Totally agree Freitasm. ++

We need a new word in the English language - which is stronger than 'idiot' but not censored.

(Unfortunately people object to being labeled arrogant/selfish )

Fwitless

Combines the wonderfully expressive Aussie f*ckwit with the kind of selfish unthinking behaviour exhibited by brainless types who decide to visit the old folks home on the other side of town during lockdown and stop off for a beach picnic and a free speech demonstration on the way.

It seems Trump is only interested in Covid infections when it's either
  • reduced voter turnout
  • unsubstantiated or faith-based miracle cure
  • he or his cronies can make money from it
  • "you think we got it bad here. Look at New Zealand."
  • it's a Chinese conspiracy

I prefer 'muppet' - spouting ridiculous nonsense and unaware they've got someone else's hand up their bum pulling the strings.

Plenty of those out on Auckland beaches and playgrounds this weekend.

People ignore L3 now because why not.

The masses simply arnt going to stay at home. And dont .
So many exceptions and allowed travel around Ak , L3 is very much worthless.

On day 1&2 of L3, the majority of people I saw at the supermarket wore masks
On Sunday it was about 50/50 masks wearing/not .  So making masks only recommended isnt working .
A lot of people at local beaches , wandering around the local shopping area .  Stay at home is ignored by the masses (locally)

Even in lockdown, you are allowed to go to places where there will be a high risk of infection : supermarket, dairy, coffee shops , buses  etc .
People see how futile it is now and just apply the rule however they see fit .
Prolonging the lockdown will have the adverse effect of more & more completely ignoring L3 recommendations .

No, they can be open - just have to operate contactless

https://covid19.govt.nz/covid-19/alert-system/alert-level-3/#workplaces-and-businesses

Retail is possible through delivery and non-contact collection at the door, including of prepared food. Customers cannot consume food or drink on premises.

That sounds pretty accurate
It also covers the dummies/rent-a-crowd who think it needs a 'po'test'.

I think the government should change the message and go back to pushing the table with different levels and explain, again, what is expected in each level.

I think people need constant reminder of this.

So, what do we do? Give up? A recent article on Norway and Sweden showed that Norway won on all metrics. less cases, less deaths, less deaths /million, economy was hit less. People will lay low if the virus is running the show. Thats not Auckland, yet

Businesses want the lockdown gone

Dr Michael Baker I read today says extend it, forget if it was a week or two

Judith Colins says if elected she will get feedback from the people.

Its clear no one wants a lockdown, no one wants the virus either. Stalemate?

Instant fines people for not wearing masks(make mask wearing mandatory first in level 3). Fine people for not following the rules. They are doing this in Australia. It is going to cost the country far too much if the lockdown continues due to people not following the rules. As we are near the end of an infection cycle in lockdown, we shouldn't really be getting any new cases that are not linked to household contacts. If there are infections in workplaces that have occurred within L3 restrictions, then where whose people socially distancing properly and following workplace procedures?

It seems from media reports and photos in Auckland (people playing basketball on closed courts etc), there were people flouting the lockdown, and it seemed worse from what was reported, than in our initial level 3 lockdown. I am guessing it is solely based on complacency and people thinking that it is already contained. Rather than acting like they have Covid, which should be the message.

I can see the lockdown being extended by another week on both levels based on the trends, which should have dropped anyway due to it being a weekend and less testing being done.
