I have removed a racist comment from this discussion - and the replies (happy they were all against it).

I had the misfortune of reading the lengthy blatant racist diatribe before you removed it. Glad you did.

It's not just that these things are racist. Invariably they are also incorrect, spewing false information based on ignorance. From everything I have seen, those posing the greatest threat to the rest of us by refusing to wear masks, self-isolate, not party, socially distance, and generally heed health service advice and recommendations, tend to be overwhelmingly white NZ citizens, many of whom also subscribe to idiot fringe ideas about 5G, QAnon, anti-vaccination, and self-medication by drinking chlorine bleach. The post was certainly racist and dumb. It was also factually wrong.

14 today, 9 at the border and 5 with links to the existing community cases. Positive, I would have said.

Good to see the number of community cases low and all linked to the existing cases, indeed.

Appears there may now also be focus on the previous Air India flight and how far that's likely to extend.

7 in 1 group previously 4 days ago, 2 on 29th

And now another 2 in AKL today. All arriving 23rd Aug.

Also wonder how they are redistributing to other MIQs once they hit AKL. 5 in CHC. We only have Singapore on a Monday. And as far as I'm aware no Fiji flights.

The Christchurch MIQ cases are a man in his 20s, a woman in her 30s, two women in their 20s, and a man in his 40s, who all arrived on the same flight from India via Fiji on August 27.

I just can't understand why they are not being required to get tests before boarding the plane. The less positive Covids cases arriving in NZ, reduces the risk for all NZers, as every positive case coming into the country increases the risk of people working around the border getting it. We won't pick up all cases, but at least we will get a good number of them.  India look like they are now one of the biggest hotspots. Australia seem to be so much stricter with allowing people back into the country, including limiting the number of people on each plane to 30 and restricting the numbers each week right down. It appears the number of people returning to NZ now maybe dropping back, maybe because we now have cases in the community, so it doesn't look as rosey here as it did . NZ has restrictions, but per capita, we appear to be allowing magnitudes more people back in than Oz, and they must have a good reason for restricting it like they have.

I also see Sam with the covid card has given up in frustration dealing with the MOH. https://www.stuff.co.nz/business/122626522/sam-morgan-gives-up-on-covidcard-in-frustration-with-ministry-of-health . Not good

Singapore is tightening up the specification for what qualifies as a mask.

https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/health/rules-on-definition-and-wearing-of-masks-tightened-under-covid-19-control-order

""

It comes as the Ministry of Health (MOH) reiterated on Saturday that makeshift face coverings such as bandanas, scarves and neck gaiters should not be used as masks.

MOH's recommendation is also in line with those by the multi-ministry task force tackling the Covid-19 pandemic.

The definition of a mask has been revised to mean a covering made of paper, plastic or textile solely designed to be worn over the nose and mouth as protection against infection or air pollution.

In some lighter news.

Not something I would recommend. This guy's taking years off his life.

It should be noted the Chinese Communist Party has not been happy with his Youtube videos in the past, but has managed to stay out of jail as far as I know.

Note: that South Dakota is lightly populated, #46 out of 50.

It's generally believed actual infections are twice as high in the US as reported, due to lack of timely contact tracing.

460,000 vehicles gathered at the motorcycle rally, mostly out-of-state.

Rapid City Journal: 236 COVID-19 cases traced back to Sturgis Motorcycle Rally

[South Dakota] State health officials said Monday that 105 South Dakotans who attended the Sturgis motorcycle rally “prior to becoming ill” now have COVID-19.

State epidemiologist Joshua Clayton said he didn’t have the most recent data on out-of-state cases reported back to the DOH and associated with the rally, but the Journal newspaper has found 131 cases.

Covid Card.
I expect impatience to get a sign off to greenlight large quantity, so manufacturing orders could be queued up ?
Its easy enough to secure 1000, or even a few 1000pcs at an elevated cost to build your trial widgets quickly.
To get to full mass production of 100's K or Millions you have lead-times of components in that volume that can be very very long indeed.
The longest of these will decide the soonest you will see your product , so 4,5,6 months depending.

We will have to have good non-card systems for all this time anyway so why not put more money into them might be a thought too.

On the other side its $100M not chickenfeed, you would want to have tires very well kicked and all (Then you have to wait 5,6 Months)
Plus others like Singapore have well advanced programs.

Privacy wonks would just do your head in as functionality disappears the more tinfoil that is added.
You might feel your life energy being drained by this, if you were passionate.

Not sure there is a good answer to this.

Just sharing what I know...

One of my friend's wife and their 9 month old boy boarded flight in Delhi on 26th August. They were tested before boarding the plane, once results came out as negative then only they were allowed to board. The plane stopped 2 hours in Jakarta, and couple of other places before reaching Fiji. From Fiji they took AirNZ and reached Cchurch on 27th night. They are quarantined there, and have taken 3rd day test and so far all good. So, looks like precautions are being taken, may be people are picking up on the way.
