You mean like..

However leader Kelly Vogel told Stuff the church was widely misinterpreted, discriminated against and the target of unfair commentary.

He rejected claims the Fellowship it was secretive and wanted Auckland to move to alert level one.

"We don't really know too much about science. We don't really know too much about politics.

"We believe God is totally in control."

However, Vogel added while the church wouldn't always agree with the Government it would abide by Ministry of Health directions and was encouraging members of the congregation to be tested.

I do wonder how different current times would have played out if Facebook and Twitter were non existent. Or blocked from use for the period

I see them as the pedestal for the crazies and distortion. Sure, the blogs and wix sites and youtube nuts would likely still be there, but their freely spread by other believers advertising platform would be next to gone.

YouTube where the stupid educate the really stupid and the incredibly stupid research the important stuff like 5G, Chemtrails, and Flat Earth

Oblivian: ...Mt Roskill church leader: "We believe God is totally in control."...

Some who haven't been personally involved the evangelicals may believe this is a flippant, off-the-cuff remark.

However it's one of the most evil tenants of many evangelical movements: fatalism.

(If you want to know more, google "Calvinism")

Martha Coit wrote a detailed account in 1688 of her harrowing near-death childbirth experiences, which included several stillbirths. But rather than it being a cautionary tale or a recording of hard-won advice, Coit aimed to encourage “my offspring to trust in the Lord at all times.”

Here's a 19th century book in the Smithsonian that taught children their ABCs using the same puritanical morbidity.

While not great for our ancestors, it was somewhat understandable due to most people rural backgrounds, ignorance, and the lack of disease prevention.

However when people began to mostly live in close contact in cities, we as fellow city dwellers cannot tolerate this stupidity.

If the Mt Roskill members want to form an isolated off-shore island community , then go ahead.

If they want to live New Zealand's most populous city, then it's time they get their head of the their arses: "God is totally in control" isn't going to cut it.

Here's an article from the NIH called "Fatalism in the context of COVID-19: Perceiving coronavirus as a death sentence predicts reluctance to perform recommended preventive behaviors"

I visited a few shops and major chains in Auckland on Sunday. Some shops' staff had masks some did not. I wonder if masks are provided by some of these employers at all during 2.5

People these days see to not understand the difference between reality and propaganda. Back in the 90s Carl Sagan wrote The Demon-Haunted World and one of the most important parts on that book is The Baloney Detection Kit.

A huge % of kiwis still believe in some sort of god or ultimate being , despite zero evidence .
Its just human nature , the majority simply arnt critical thinkers .

I bought this book when it came out in the 90's. From memory, Sagan said at the time he was worried the developed world was at risk of moving into a modern day equivalent of the dark ages. Sadly, 20+ years later shows just how prophetic Sagan was. Queue Facebook ...

The descriptions trying to link things up to not sound as bad are just getting stupid

Today's sole new case is a young girl epidemiologically linked to an existing case (..) associated with the Botany sub-cluster which has been genomically linked to the Auckland cluster.

Lol, if that's the official wording yes I agree on the face of it. But perhaps not scientifically strange. It's like lungfish - x - y - z - humans. Or t rex - c - d - e - chickens.

Trains and public transport changes: easing of physical distance requirements on buses, planes and trains with no more capacity limits or distance on Level 2.

Mask use is still compulsory.

Not so worried about this case as its a household contact of an existing confirmed case, and has been in self isolation sine August 30 ...

The more interesting spin was

"The case of the healthcare worker from the Auckland quarantine facility who was reported yesterday has been genomically sequenced by ESR. The case is genomically linked to three cases that have been in the quarantine facility that are linked to the Auckland cluster. This reinforces exposure at Jet Park being the most likely route of transmission, but the Public Health Unit continues to investigate exactly how the infection occurred. "

So, its the same variant that it currently being spread in the community.....

Overall it does look like we are getting to the edge of the cluster (s).. active community cases are below 60 - and continue to trend down...so another week with no/little growth should see them near 20....

I suspect I'm not going that far out on a limb to guess this is the same "Will Ryan"

https://www.infonews.co.nz/news.cfm?id=59908

The news updates at the bottom of the post were brought to us by twenty-six-year old New Zealand truth activist and radio show co-host, Will Ryan....

"Our laid back attitudes do not lend themselves to facts, but rather to feel-good UN and Barack Obama-style propaganda - sad really," offers the Waiheke-Islander, who has been known to shout in the direction of the TVNZ building through a bullhorn in protest at the lies they have aired about 9/11 before. He is hoping fellow New Zealanders will take a more active role in their political scene and demand more of their media, as he does
