Ok so I'll ask the question many people are thinking... with everything closed are there any options in terms of getting yummi meals delivered? xD

Supermarkets would have greasy pies, fish and chips, cream buns, the city branches maybe curry dishes, burgers, toasted sammmies, pizzas ;-)

Service stations have flat whites and lattes and mochas.

How much is pizza and indian delivery every night? All in all will be more than buying the ingredients at supermarket or paying the meal kit delivery. Time is no longer a problem now. There's plenty of time to cook fresh from supermarket or if you can't cook, follow the recipe.

It's much cheaper for us (about $10-13/night) to get cheap take-a-ways delivered than to order in english meals or cook which always involves so much wastage.. we're not master chefs, and we've proved hundreds of times our efforts are lacklustre, costly & wasteful

Pizza is meals to some people, indian is meals to some people, chinese is meals to some people, thai is meals to some people whats the difference between any of these meals getting delivered and getting english meals delivered ?

Those expensive english meals the cash rich and time poor get delivered are take-a-ways to those who prefer indian/pizza/chinese/thai surely?

Mainly, why am I being forced to go to a place like a supermarket at a time like this, seems backward.

Because a supermarket is a single point where it's easy to trace back to a neighbourhood. A delivery or takeways involve more people than supermarkets, there are many of them, creating a web of relations that's hard to follow if infection spreads.

Just do the right thing - get food from supermarket and stay home.

It may look daunting but you may be saving some lives.

I'd be encouraging those who have limited skills to spend some time improving their culinary skills. Cooking is relatively straight forward,  once you get a few fundamentals sorted.

It can also be a fantastic family bonding experience, and if it isn't, there are sharp knives nearby! :)

This... I personally have two extra hours a day for personal use. WFH means no commute anymore.

Edit: planning on using these hours for something else... I already cook, quite well actually.

How are these companies getting away with this?

For every single company that stays open and is circulating people, the less effective the lockdown becomes. I am not sure where I draw the line, but the warehouse and hell seem to sit somewhere on the wrong side of that for me.

And Auckland liquor trust plans to remain open too - you can already get beer and wine from supermarkets, FFS.

In some parts of Auckland, supermarkets are not allowed to carry wine and beer. My understanding is that the liquor stores opening are only  in those areas.

Domino’s NZL

UPDATE:
We are currently receiving overwhelming demand from our senior citizens and intend to meet that demand. As we place these orders for the days ahead we thank you for your patience.
________

As part of this decision, the government has asked for all face-to-face takeaway services to close, but has classified food delivery as an essential service. Accordingly, we have immediately closed all takeaway services and will remain open for delivery.

Feeding the community and feeding the front line of this crisis has never been more important.

Food delivery can make social isolation more effective, by reducing crowds at peak periods in supermarkets. We believe this is a significant responsibility. For as long as it is safe to do so, and our community allows, we will continue to feed our communities and those most vulnerable through home delivery.

All deliveries will be Zero Contact and cashless during this time.

Thank you for your ongoing support.' - fb
