Kudos to Countdown. After a lot of confusion and uncertainty the delivery was made as promised, no problems, no complaints. They did what they said they would and I am happy. Hopefully the next one will also be this easy.

They're handling it pretty well, a neighbour who's in a high-risk category reported being given priority for Countdown online ordering/deliveries.

Fantastic news. Glad it worked out for you. I trust you weren't accosted by police, and if you were, you resisted the urge to tear off their ears and sing to them :)

freitasm:Getting through together also includes tools for parents, dubbed Sparklers at Home, which provides support for parents to talk with their primary-school aged children about their own mental health and wellbeing.

It looks like their ubuntu server crashed, first with "bad gateway" then "service unavailable", but then recovered. Life imitates art?

All kidding aside, some good articles. I liked the one about parents talking to kids about covid-19.

That's great news.

+1 for Countdown. They delivered to us today and handled things like needing to call me so I could open the security gates to let them in with no problems at all. They sent a text in the morning giving me a 60 minute slot that they estimated delivery would take place within.

They were 10 minutes out, but I got a text later saying that they would be there very soon.

Some substitutions, but nothing significant.

Hats off to them and that is it for us - we will only be using that service until after lockdown, and possibly even thereafter since it saves us wasting 2 or 3 hours driving the round trip to Masterton.

I have decided the flare up that decided it's a good time to come can just bugger off. Yesterday evening I managed to get my bike out and go for a ride around my neighbourhood. I didn't go far but managed a couple of laps around an interest few streets and according to my watch I did 7kms. I know that is not much but it's beed a while since I managed to ride my bike. I don't normally go on the roads as I have a fused neck and lumbar spine so can't turn around. However there is virtually no cars around at that time and I didn't encounter any cars just a family of ducks going for a walk across the road. It was a great feeling getting out on my E-bike and did the course without assist turned on. It's a pain that it is raining today so will be stuck inside but rain is a thing we really need.

In the states, "911" is the equivalent to our "111" number.

In this case, the woman was disguising her call for police assistance, because her abuser was in the room.

Apparently suggested on Facebook as a technique for dealing with domestic abuse.

Hopefully it would work here also, though texting one of the national helpline may also work.

Remember to clear your phone's history ASAP in either case, in case your phone is taken off you.

I have to confess I got a bit grumpy this morning.

It's just over a year since I last got off the rock and we had several trips planned this year, all of which are obviously cancelled. The idea of being stuck on the rock for another year gave me a fair case of Cabin Fever.

3 hours mowing gave me the peace and tranquillity to get through that - for now, anyway!

If all had gone to plan I would have just returned from Jordan. We also have tickets to Turkey and Greece for the northern summer.

It could always be worse - we had our first 40 degree day of the year yesterday...

For the sake of my own mental health I have introduced more stringent isolation measures. I watch the tv news headlines and the weather. I have ditched both the NZHerald and Stuff.

On YouTube I’ll stick to phones, computers, home theatre, rc aircraft, astrophysics and future transport.

In Geekzone I have stopped looking at anything to do with Covid-19 or politics, and some of the general discussion topics as well. I have found these particularly to have become quite toxic, probably because people are locked down and have nothing better to do, and as such the feelings are amplified. There are about half a dozen GZers (IMO) that are the worst offenders. They don’t need to be named because they are obvious to the rest of us, but they do cover the full spectrum of opinions. So from now on I’m sticking to what GZ is good for, help, opinions and recommendations for things like Home Theatre, Mobile Technology, Computing, Networking, Transport, etc.

See you out the other side.

Areas of Geek interest: Home Theatre, HTPC, Android Tablets & Phones, iProducts.

I generally do that anyway. I don’t use social media, so none of that infects my life. I’ll read the daily government briefings on the Herald but ignore the rest as usual.

On YT I never watch anything related to news if I can avoid it. It’s an entertainment source for me, not a source of current affairs.

I watched about 30 second of Trump's live update. I could feel the physically stress rising in my shoulders and neck.

I'm never going to make that mistake again.
