@Handle9  if you used to use sugar in coffee try no sugar but add half to a quarter pinch of salt to the coffee. Makes a huge change to the flavour.

Funny, I've gone from 6 to 10 cups of tea a day, I am sure that isn't doing wonders for me either.

I'd like to find a drink with lower sugar (I have milk and a heaped teaspoon of sugar in tea) but I find I need warm/hot drinks, and some sweetness...

I have Nespresso in the morning - three capsules with about 10% hot milk. That is the total of my coffee for the day - do not have any more after that.

I do drink tea - Yorkshire or Dilmah - with milk. I do not put sugar in either tea or coffee and never have; when I was younger I used to be able to smell the sugar in tea! Usually I have about 3 cups in the day, and none after 1930.

You could replace sugar with a wide variety of things that have the same effect but they are all a bit Frankenfood except honey and if you are using that you may as well just use sugar really.

I have almost given up alcohol completely (not that I ever drank it in significant quantities in the past 25 years at least) and that alone has improved my overall wellbeing more than changing the amount of tea or coffee has ever done.

Also very sorry to hear that. As one who knows the love of animals, I feel your pain. I hope something can be done for him.

On top of that, today I found out my lovely German Shepherd has liver cancer.

Sorry to hear this. I don't have any pets of my own but over the last couple of months I have been spending a lot of time with my friend's cat and dog and they have provided a huge therapeutic benefit.

Is it operable/curable?

Thanks to those expressing sympathy. We won't know anything for 10 days, getting an ultrasound right now isn't easy but have one booked for a week from now. We will take reasonable steps but nothing too crazy. He is 12 and hips are sore, I don't want to make him suffer more than he has to. If we can ensure a good quality of life, we will undertake recommendations in line with that. I am totally gutted can't really concentrate. He is a lovely sweet animal.  He is well and seems happy enough, but based on what I have read things will drop off quickly, so we will make the most of the time we have left.

That's genuinely quite heartbreaking...

I hope you can all enjoy the time you have and that he doesn't have too hard a time of it.

Losing a pet that has been part of your family is a tough time. I hope your family, and your dog, get to enjoy a fair bit more time together and he's not in pain.

Thanks. I really don't miss it now and can taste the coffee much better. I've cut down on my lattes to two a day and then just on espresso without anything.

I don't miss adding flavours to coffee anymore, quite the opposite. I can't drink sweet tea or coffee now.

Thanks, death is, unfortunately, a part of life but it was a pretty tough last few hours, especially breaking the news to my kids, who are sensitive souls at the best of times.

Quite frankly, I feel right now, that 2020 can F right off :)

Ugh, more bad news apparently! Vet called this morning to clarify something he said. Thunder has a cold pad/paw, which is somewhat likely due to a clot. If/When that frees he could have a fairly quick end "at any time".  He also has reduced sensation in his legs indicating other issues as well.

This has all come on so quick! Deep Breaths.......

I am so sorry for you. I went through something similar with a cat I really loved and I know how awful it can be. I held him when he was put down. I cried for months afterwords. Just keep petting Thunder and telling him how much he matters to you.

I am not sure if people mind (want) me posting updates, but unfortunately for Thunder and my family, the ultrasound actually found a *signifcant* tumor. At 12 he is geriatric even though he still behaves like a puppy sometimes, and whilst in the best possible case scenario, surgery would be removal and an extension of his life, it would be only for 12 months perhaps. The recovery would be horrible for him if it was even succesful, and so, we have decided to let nature run it's course because the worst case there, is relatively painless. That is something I am extremely focused on for his sake. Weeks or months is what we have been told depending on the tumor rupturing. He's ok for now, they didn't have to sedate him today. The vet said he's never had a GSD be so compliant and easy to manage during an ultrasound, and thought he was just "magic". We will just make the most of the time we have with him, making him as happy as we can.
