Went to the supermarket yesterday... checkout operator was visibly sick, just a shame I hadn't noticed until all my stuff was on the belt and they'd started.

Not really ideal given the circumstances and to be honest I expected better. I doubt very much it's Covid-19 but any illness should mean you're not at work (and this goes for normal times too, let alone in the midst of a global pandemic).

There will be a lot of flu going around this winter, but you are absolutely correct. Why didn't the shift supervisor do something about that?

I am not sure how much Flu will actually go around if we are enforcing 2 weeks in isolation for international visitors. Also record numbers of people are likely to get a Flu Jab (which I understand isn't covering all Flu's).

If by "flu" you mean "the common cold" rather than influenza, then there isn't a jab for that yet.  And that'll still do the rounds due to the same various reasons it always does.  One would have hoped that the better awareness of illness transmission the last few months have graphically provided should have made people more aware of such things.  But I guess that was expecting too much.

Yeah hard to say. If people keep up the high standards around hand washing and hygiene and staying home if you're sick etc, as well as lots of people still working from home, then the common cold may not be as prolific this year.

I went to Gilmours yesterday, wasn't busy at all, maybe 20-30 people in the shop, perhaps a 1-2 minute delay to get in whilst they took my details. Business as usual. Haven't been to my local supermarket, we are doing click and collect for now.

Went to Countdown in Sunnynook (Auckland's North Shore).

25 people in orderly fashion waiting outside.

75% wearing masks.

Got in and out pretty easily.

No Flour or baking items (didn't need them anyway).

No current restrictions on number of items you can buy, so I got a metric ton of toilet paper and every can of baked beans they have (OK - I got a single 12-pack of loo roll and a 3 pack of Beans).

All in all, it was very orderly, well executed and weirdly familiar.

Went to Pak n Save Petone last night.

First rows of car parks roped off for queue lines already setup (ahead of any future level changes), no queuing to get into the store. Only a few people in store wearing masks. I had one with me, didn't feel the need to use it. People in the store maintaining distances.

Pak n Save had good levels of all product, except bread. All meat was well stocked, except chicken. Flour\pasta in good supply.

Wife went to the local Countdown in Johnsonville this morning, she estimates easily 75% people wearing masks there.

Wife reported Countdown very little bog roll, and very little sanitizer.

PaknSave Upper Hutt at late lunchtime today.  Fairly busy but I'd say likely to be the normal level of lunchtime ish madness.  About 20% mask wearing.

Mostly well stocked although High Grade flour was already cleaned out.

Restrictions on more than a few product lines (baking, easy meals, pasta & sauce, hand/body wash) in place.

Ventured to Mt Roskill New World just now. No Queue. Bread - Gone. Not a loaf to be found. Most other things were OK. When did supermarkets stop selling methylated Spirits?

Not a single staff member was wearing a mask.

Overall, pretty easy experience. I'd forgotten how eerie the roads were during lockdown.

Last time, bread makers sold out big time. A poster here tried to buy one, the store laughed! Hence flour became hard to get too.

It may just be New World?
Pak n sav and Countdown both sell it.
Though it sold out last lockdown. Ditto Bunnings and Mitre10

Methylated spirits is a great sanitiser. Coloured ethanol.
No longer made with methanol. Too many derros dying from drinking it, even after filtering it thru a loaf of bread to remove the bittering agent.
