Went to countdown on moorhouse here in chch as its 5 mins drive and closest. Arrive around 11.30 am , no queue but I did have to wait (first in line). They were allowing 50 people inside at a time so when somebody came out one could go in. Very well stocked with everything and everybody observing the rules I was very impressed with everybody's attitude. Seemed very surreal with such an empty supermarket.

Was a line forming outside when I left though.

My exercise was me walking around the supermarket hahaha.

Went to Pak n Save Palmerston North at 11am and it was fairly quiet. Got everything I needed as most things were in stock. Still a few empty spaces (most notably flour) and limited amounts of bread, but others ok. Restricting it to 1 person per trolley as I was leaving so they are limiting the numbers in.

My exercise has not really changed.I can run from home to the local park which is less than 5 minutes away and use a variety of paths and stairs to mix it up. Can also do a 5km or so loop round the block and vary it up by taking various side streets. Have an event specific plan so have a decent variety of run intensities and length to keep things fresh. Completed a beer mile yesterday which was pretty tough hahaha - a beer mile is drink a can of beer at the start, then every 400m (or lap of a track if you're lucky to have one open) until you complete a mile.....Not easy.

Other than that I've got my weights bench, TRX suspension trainer, kettlebells plus a whole lot of free online workouts that I can utilise.

Back from New World Pukekohe.

Did a good shop (family of 5). Not busy, well stocked. Plenty on special. Certainly helped with anxiety!

@skyplonk I was there around 11:30am today. I was 3rd and last in the queue to get in, only had to wait about 5 minutes.

Still no flour, most pasta was gone. Beer and wine was back after being completely missing on Tuesday. There were probably too many people in the store, its not roomy inside and there was plenty of jostling.

Maybe I'll go at night next time

:)

What's the deal with flour? Do we not make it here? I get demand is high, but as high as Pasta? I guess people are thinking they can make their own bread, I thought of the same myself. Good luck with finding a bread maker either. I called 4 stores prior to the lockdown and 3 stores laughed out loud.

Some of the Asian food markets are refusing entry unless you have a mask or are willing to cover your face with clothing apparently. I want to make a stop there for some ingredients

RunningMan:

kiwiharry: Does anybody know if Countdown is allowing people to skip the queue; if there is one, for customers who've ordered online and are there for pickup?

Countdown have priority assistance for elderly/vulnerable. Details at https://shop.countdown.co.nz/shop/content/priority-assistance

Foodstuffs are priority hours/queues for emergency services workers in uniform or with ID https://www.tvnz.co.nz/one-news/new-zealand/medical-emergency-services-staff-get-priority-foodstuffs-supermarkets-help-fight-coronavirus

Hospital staff should be changing at work and NOT taking their hospital uniform into a supermarket.

This is certainly the case for the MCDHB.

Noel's was showing something like "3,437 sold in the last 24 hours" for the model we looked at.

Will this lead to a resurgence in home vege gardens and more sustainable living? A lot of people are learning to live with less, such as takeaways.

small bags are out but my New world had a big stack of 10 kg bags, which would last me a couple of years at least.

Went down the delivery route yesterday from countdown, A couple of seconds after midnight you could see the slots for next Saturday and they all started turning full so managed to get a 5.30pm delivery, Within a few seconds everything was full so people are hammering the online delivery which is good as people are staying inside.

I tried getting an online delivery from Countdown at 8am this morning, but none available at all, not even 7 days ahead. The same happened for New World, completely full for the next 7 days.

It seems that the online delivery system is so overloaded now that you could say it's virtually collapsed. I'll try at midnight tonight, but it's ridiculous that people should have to do that to get a slot. It reminds me of getting online tickets to a rock concert or an All Blacks game!

Perhaps the Army needs to step in and help the supermarkets with their online deliveries? After all, we are being told to stay home if at all possible and keep our cars off the roads, so we now need Government help to do this!

And here's another thing, we are now being told that when our groceries arrive we should put our gloves and masks on and put the goods into quarantine for at least 48 hours as the virus can last 24 hours on paper and packaging and longer on tins etc. So, we now have at least a 7-day delay in delivery and a 2-day quarantine delay, so you have to plan 9 days ahead before you can get new groceries.
