I popped up to the Glenfield Mall for lunch and had a look around for any QR codes. I honestly didn't expect to see many, based on others experiences and the fact that retailers don't actually have to offer them.

I found that McDonalds in the food court had one, but not the government one. Instead it took you to some website to enter your contact details.

The only other one I could find was EB Games, and they were using the government one. Unfortunately it wouldn't scan for me in the govt app, tried for about a minute, however it did scan in just seconds using Google Lens. I took a photo:

After coming home I tried to scan it again using the govt app (displaying it on my PC's screen) and after a little while it did eventually scan.

Strangely my iPad received the iOS 13.5 update this morning but my iPhone Xr is trying to update to 13.4.1 and getting nowhere.

The tracing app just updated on the iPhone so good turn-round on bug fixes although I had no issues with download or registration yesterday.  However I can’t find a software version statement, am I missing something ?

That's one of the two MoH ones I found as well. Scanned OK for me (after clicking through multiple screens of messages on the MoH app), as a proxy for the one Bin Inn didn't have.

I had some issues with my one not scanning the first time I tried - have only tried it with the MoH QR code at work.  When I treid today, it worked as it should.  I was on the v 1.0.0 release the first time I think and on 1.0.2 this time round.

Was in PlaceMakers Mt Maunganui today. MoH guideline signs, nil to none near door entrance but was one on a sandwich board out in carpark a good 10m away, closer to carpark entrance than to store entrance. After being in store for a good ¾ hr and only on exit did I notice a QR code next to the cashier till flat on the counter. Gave the NZ covid Tracer app a go and it kept saying "QR code not recognised". This was on 2 iPhones 7 iOS 13.5 and an Android phone of unknown type belonging to one of the staff.

Things wrong with this retailer

  1. poor MoH guideline signage
  2. no hand sanitiser near entrance or anywhere we could see. Though PlaceMakers sell hand sanitiser, MoH covid signage, face shields and cut to size perspex
  3. QR code not in prominent and easy to see position
  4. QR code failed to work
  5. no social distancing at all

Rather poor all round I feel ☹️ ☣️ ☹️

We had sanitiser in car.

Facebook Messenger Scan Codes: Unique Ways to Use Them

Wonder if it would've been better for MoH to use a circular code or something to prevent confusion with the non-govt QR code?

It's PlaceMakers - that's the main thing wrong with it 🙃

Been to a few shops today myself, real mixed bag in terms of level of care factor out there. Saw very few MoH QR codes but I suppose it's still early days for the app. Agree with another commenter who said displaying the QR should have been an enforced part of trading at level 2.

Proud to say my own employer's store today ticked some of the boxes - MoH QR code up, perspex guards, hand sanitiser, and limits on number of people inside. My opinion is we need to have been doing a better job on masks and enforcing social distancing, particularly in the checkout queue.

Yeah, nah. That wouldn't fly with the Privacy Commissioner here.

Yes, we all know how trustworthy the Qatari government is.

Really? Surely you jest?

Retail, don't need to have one so doubt it was a govt qr if they even bothered.

If it doesn't look like the image a few posts back, well....

QR != Govt Readble QR. Just a method of storing data, various formats. Won't always be cross app readable without the right format header string.

clinty: So have been through the process and created my poster for work :)

You will need :

* a RealMe login
* a New Zealand Business Number (NZBN)  and access to your NZBN profile
* authority over your business

The REALME account you use will need access to your Companies Office account to access the NZBN

Then sign up for Business Connect

The rest of the process is pretty smooth

Clint

antonknee: ... Saw very few MoH QR codes but I suppose it's still early days for the app. ...

Note: Emphasis in clinty´s quote mine.

* Only an ¨authorised person¨ can log in to the companies register / NZBN / Business Connect sites.
* This ¨authorised person¨ then has to create a poster & location for each branch / depot / outpost / physical location that the business has.
* The ¨authorised person¨ then has to download said PDF poster & distribute to each branch / depot / outpost / physical location.

Yes, it´s early days for the app & the QR code poster process can be made simpler. Hopefully we will see more of these posters appear next week. ( & thankfully, you can email the PDF, you are not delayed by the couriers 😋)

You know, if there was some organisation that recorded every registered business in NZ then they could print up the necessary QR-code posters in a standardised format, mail them to each registered business, and tell them they have to post them up at any entrances as a condition of operating during level 2. I wonder if such a registry exists, and if there's a government organisation in a position to do this?

That's the only way we'll get these things up within our lifetime. It's telling that of the two MoH posters I could find in an entire mall, one was a computer software store and the other I can't remember but was probably some similar tech-oriented business. I expect the food outlets and nail salons to have their posters up approximately never.

Whole thing is about not being heavy handed or forceful. But opt-in. They could have just as you outline by the same method. But instead, it is advising of the option as above.

Sure, and that's the approach we already know doesn't work, see previous posts on how hard it is to find and use MoH posters anywhere. That's why I was suggesting an alternative that has the potential to get 100% coverage or close to it, very quickly.
