Do people find that this app logs you out after a period of non use, or after an app update? I set it up for some elderly people, and they now can't use it because it is logged out and they don't know their password, and they don't have mobile date to login when out anyway. IMO this app should be simple to us without frustration.

So why cant they let the covid app connect to my google account and not have to mess about with scanning codes when I go into places?

I think this is the key issue , apart from the business that took their posters down or hid them around the corner.

Usability for average user, and the 50% of us that are below average :-)

Yeh, 10 character password , at least 1 Capital, 1 Number, 1 Special character , 1 Lower Case.
Gold standard in password construction these days ?
Thought that annoying creator of password resets was debunked a long time ago.

Then it does not have an option to autologin if that's what you want, as you unlocked your phone to use it anyway.
Come on its on a phone with its own lock and its not bank account access.
The paranoid can still set it to require a login all the time , why not both easy and less easy options.

So someone restarting their app in bright sun or lighting , well you give up, and get your business done.

Its much like the restriction on creating posters ,its now easier but ?
Surely it would be best to make it easy as possible for clubs and groups to create posters for their event or barbeque or even agents for open homes.

If the 0.x% of nutters create posters to create fake tracking , well who cares.
They will get their jollies trying to stuff up any system, but if its all quick and easy for 99% then we are good.

Edit: Fingers and thumbs

Oh yes each time I have used it , it wants me to logon, not sure if it was update, time , or my occasional restarts of the phone .

It is easy to create posters. All you need is to identify yourself with your driver’s license, give a name for your place/event/venue and street address and you are done. The process does ask for a business reg number but you can leave this blank. Go for it!! Have your guests scan in.

Thanks morrisk , great to hear you can skip the business number, they need to start advertising this and encouraging.
We do need to get into some good habits, but then i did hear one of the polys speaking against this.

P.S. Anyone attending one of the few/only Armageddon events in the world at the moment , let us know did they have a whole bunch of covid posters up to help large numbers to sign in if they wanted to ?
Not that anyone would want to be in the queue behind me as I login , fingers or thumbs its all the same :-)

djtOtago: The local Mitre 10 is a good example. Works on the posters at one door but not the other door. Ripple app works at both.

Play store app page 30th June: We've found and fixed an issue that prevented poster scanning from working properly in some situations.

Did that fix it?

I have my Android phone set to update automatically on Wifi only. Sometimes the frequency between update checks is surprisingly long for some reason. Even when it was set to mobile, I would sometimes see really long intervals between automated store updates. I've seen this on several phones I've owned. Update check frequency seems low.

Having the app notify users when an update is available is a useful thing..

i tried loging out and loging in and it made zero difference. i reinstalled the app logged in and tried again, it took almost 10 seconds for the app to register the QR code at the first place i was at, the second place it took about 5 seconds. the Rippl app took less than a second at both places.

Nope. Just tried to scan the code at the entrance to the local Countdown today, wouldn't scan no matter how I held the phone in front of it.

At this point the MoH may as well just admit they've failed and give up, it's now 2 1/2 months since the lockdown ended and they still can't get the tracing app working. It'd be better to use pencil and paper.

Was that at the highbury mall? I saw someone scan it when I was going to get one of the few remaining trolleys to do my shop, They either didnt scan it really or else it worked straight away for them.

Where abouts in Glenfield Mall? That's my local so I'll try scanning it too and we might be able to figure out if it's an app problem, poster problem or phone problem.

I have been to a place (the WCC service/library on Manners St, Wellington) and couldn't scan the poster by the door (taped to the glass from inside) but had no problem scanning a similar poster that was on a pedestal inside the room. Probably glass reflection, light, etc.
