The Android version has been getting some poor reviews, especially around the setup/registration process.

I have read and some of the reviews are people saying they don't want to give data to the government and other non-sense too...

To me it's a no-brainer. Anything I can do to reduce my risk when it comes to Covid, I'll do: social distancing, avoiding public transport, masks, tracing app.

Even if my data was transmitted, I'd still be in. If the choice is minimising my risk of contracting/transmitting Covid versus giving up a little privacy data for a limited period, I'll take the latter every time.

Passing up on the app is the digital equivalent to anti vaxing IMHO.

It'll end up at 1* on android at the signup issues rate. Nevermind they're all jumping the gun and you can manually do it on the yet-to-be-revealed website...

Newshub just announced it was lived. So it'll spike momentarily to late nighters

I was ignoring those comments. Still seems to a lot of issues getting the app up and running.

I couldn't get past initial sign on, now getting 'rate exceeded' error message (android and website)

Great initiative, but poor execution. Me thinks they shouldn't have released early.

I'm guessing the MOH should have talk to the NZ company who already has an app available.

Took me a few go to get past that Auth code. Sometimes I couldn't read properly , and other times i managed to resend the code which invalidated the old access code and I did't realise.
Basically I didn't focus and was an idiot :)

This was on Android and a few hours ago.

Are people getting different screens from others?

For the password you do not state how many characters are required. Login succeeds but shortly after appears to log out.

And it's not the only one.

Yet I had the actual box tell me it needed Cap/Num/Char, And a big ol bold text underneath the 2 fields with Min 10char, and must contain.... listed for a 2nd time.

I don't understand why they have only made the iOS version compatible with iOS 12 and newer . Many people, especially the elderly don't tend to have newer iphones. Many apps will support down to ios 10, which means older iphones like the 5C and 5 can get it which a lot of people do still use. These are often people who buy them refurbished .  Does the app use technology that isn't available on an iphone 5c and older?

I thought this app was on;y supposed to be a diary app, or is also doing tracking? I think iOS will have COVID tracking built into the latest iOS version soon anyway.

Batman:

I guess naturally with all the debates from similar apps overseas, people want to know if their privacy is safe when they sign up and use the app. My guess is no though I'm interested to hear views of the GZ community on this.

Given that, pursuant to a warrant, the government can find out exactly where you are/have been via your phone details, I'd say it's no worse than what we already have. In particular the tracing app has explicit privacy controls rather than the implicit controls you normally have with phone location metadata.
