I asked around the office yesterday, pretty much no one using it.

Today I took the train from Silverstream to Wellington. I was the only passenger to scan in my carriage.

So when it comes back and if we struggle to contain it, it won't all be the government's fault.

I use it all the time. People are acting stupidly by not using it.

Certainly at my local supermarket I see queues of people lining up to scan QR codes, and at a number of other places too, so that's good.

It's hard to judge how many people on the train are scanning because you don't know whether they are intending to scan as they board, or whether they prefer to do it as they disembark. Personally I do it while seated if there is one next to me, otherwise I do it as I leave.

Suffice to say I haven't noticed a lot of people scanning on the train, and I think the numbers have probably dropped over the last week or so. Compliance at places like supermarkets seems a bit better but still not great.

Unfortunately it's highly reliant on people having personal discipline, and most people don't.

Rickles:

This is fun 😁 ... performed the update and now app wants me to Log In again.

Of course, forgot Password so asked for re-set .... no return email with 6-digit code!  Been waiting 30 minutes for it, then asked for re-send.

Nothing yet after 10 minutes.

Anyone else experienced this problem? 😅

Oh good, it's not just me.

I thought it might be because my email address is"<name>@<myname>.nz" - I have my own .nz 2LD
Is there anything "odd" or "unusual" about your email address?

I tried several times, it just didn't work, so I uninstalled the app as I felt it was generally useless - this was quite a few weeks ago. When "Lockdown 2" arrived, I re-installed it with a different email account, and found the current incarnation is very much improved. I am disappointed to hear that the password reset still doesn't work. In order to avoid any such difficulties in future, I store the password (a unique one of course) on my phone in plain text. I know this is 'bad security', but the app's design prevents anything better. If someone can get hold of my phone and open it, then loss of my Covid-related data is the least of my problems!

In an email conversation, an MoH person told me the re-login requirement was "in accordance with the NZ ISM", and I guess it is, but the ISM is about the protection of NZ Government Official Information, not which shops and/or bordelos I visit.
And I do know about this stuff, I worked in IT Security the last ten years before I retired

So that's a bad bug compounded by an overly-paranoid security design decision.

Still room for improvement, MoH

Updated to version 1.3.0 last week and to 1.4.0 today. In both cases it didn't require me to login again. I use it 3-4 times every week day, 8 times last Sunday. I honestly can't remeber the last time it asked me to login again.

@dafman & @Rickles

Many could simply be doing a manual entry as I often do rather than queue

Maybe, fair enough, but there are plenty spread around the trains, so queuing shouldn't be an issue.

The app has got much better at reading from a distance, so it's pretty easy now to scan without even needing to get close to the QR.

I just updated my wife's phone, and it still required Log In after update install ... AND it appears to have deleted all her record of visits!

My biggest grip is with the businesses and their placement of the code.

eg. Bakers Delight - Gate Pa, Tauranga. They used to have the code nicely mounted upright on the counter. But now they have one each end mounted below the counter. Now to get it to scan fast you must inevitably have the camera perpendicular to the code and in this incidence means bending down. I pointed this out to them and they stated it was at that location and height for wheelchair users. Fair Enough I said and they replied that there was another code mounted on the entrance door at normal height. So I turned around and yes there it was on the inside of an automatic sliding door. Attempting to scan that and you had to move with the door. Hilarious not.

The difficult we can do immediately. The impossible takes a bit longer. But Miracles you will have to wait for.

To their credit, a rep from MoH emailed me about 10 minutes ago saying they had re-set my Password, and provided a 6-digit Code.

So, apart from disappearing diary entries, all good again.

I'm not a big fan of this app. My biggest gripe is that if doesn't open ready to scan, and I have to acknowledge every scan.
Its a lot of unnecessary tapping and swiping, and makes the process pretty bloody slow.

They want people to use this all the time, they need to make it as fast and easy as possible.

May I suggest people say if you are using iOS or Android, as some issue appear to be platform specific.
