If a 12-15 year old wants the vaccination they can get it without parent/guardian consent!

COVID-19: How to book your vaccination | Ministry of Health NZ

Be that as it may, most 12-15 year olds are still likely to be relatively respectful of their parents wishes as it relates to their health, enough they may not have it done without consent/approval, which I can understand.

Both me and my wife received MoH Vaccine letters today - just informing us that we can now book.

Similar format to Electorate mail outs.

Also in the 30+ group and just received a letter today from MoH dated 19 August  informing me I can book. I booked last Wednesday morning once I became eligible and had the first jab on Saturday. My wife got both jabs months ago due to being a healthcare worker.

Imagine how fast our vaccination targets would get hit, if you required a vaccination to get Maccas, KFC or Fish and Chips :)

Or even better: just fortify fast food with the vaccine. Even if "eating" the vaccine decreased effectiveness 10 fold, the repeated doses would more than make up. It would be a great way of targeting the most vulnerable.

We have only just got folic acid into bread. No way that'd happen even if it could :(

Had my first vaccination at Bargain Chemist in Manukau on Friday morning. Booked for 11:25 am, took the train down and had a nice walk in the sunshine from Puninui. The train had three cars and I think I was one of three passengers, so we were well spread out.

Arrived a little early, about 11:05 and they were able to vaccinate me without any delay.  My original appointment in Epsom was cancelled in August and when I tried to rebook, the earliest I could get at my closest vaccination centre (CBD) was in October, so I found another option.

Feeling a little bit tired last night and some slight soreness in the arm today, but don’t notice it most of the time.

If there is anyone in Auckland that still hasn’t had their first vaccination, I recommend Bargain Chemist in Manukau who have spare appointment slots this weekend and next week.

Now I need to book my second jab.

Airport drive through is also taking drive ins, no appointment necessary.

Some of our customers are suggesting that all contractors coming on to their sites may have to show proof of having had both Covid injections.

Anyone else hearing this?

I work in an industry where exactly that is the reason I've had to.

Some of the frontline requirements since the change of legislation in July. As part of that, there is electronic agreement to release status digitally to employers who query as part of the first jab agreement.

Not in NZ yet but since it's becoming more and more common in the US and Europe I'd expect to start seeing it pop up here as well. It's a good nudge to the vaccine-hesitant...

I can get vaccinated 2 weeks early via my local Bargain Chemist... (vs the govt website) should I do it?

We are in the over 30s group.

Did you book as soon as that age group was opened up?

The optimistic side of me hopes that they select people who haven't booked to send letters to, thus saving wasted paper and postage.  The pessimist side says government departments aren't so good at that kind of thing.

Sorry, late reply to this. Pretty much 8 am on day 1 for the over 30s.

I would. The sooner you're protected, the better.

Was just running a firmware upgrade on my ADSB receiver, looked at the stats while I was waiting, and realised that there's an awful lot of empty space in the flight tracking. Compared to three weeks ago there's almost nothing there, and the few flights that are tracked are mostly local. Almost all air travel to Auckland has ceased.

As I was having my gas swap-a-bottle (needed for cooking in the kitchen) replaced today, I scanned into the local Mobil and this popped up:

It was a nasty surprise, but after I took a few minutes to gather my thoughts, my level of concern dropped to near zero.  I was aware this place, which is a reasonable sized dairy and fruit and veggie shop, had exposure events.  Logic suggests to me a staff member or two has been infected.  The original dates were 22 Aug, plus 25, 26, 27 Aug IIRC, and the times were 'all day'.  I was there on the 24th.  Took myself off to get a test, as the queues were likely to be short and I wondered if the date range might be expanded or not 100% accurate.  A clear test result came back withn 24 hours.

Days later, they have backflled the other dates of 23 and 24 Aug.  I'm guessing another staff member has picked it up.

I followed instructions, fileld out the web form, and the contact tracers called me within 2 hours.  Went through their questions, advised I had a clear test which on countback was a Day 5 test.  They have asked me to get a Day 12 test tomorrow, and isolate until after Day 14, which means I'm free on Wednesday.  I called healthline a short time later and asked them if having my first vaccine jab yesterday was likely to affect my test tomorrow.  The answer was no.

Spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing in the sun.  Why is my concern near zero?  I've been careful, checked in everywhere, masked everywhere, sanitised carefully after each shopping event and each EFTPOS touch (when needed).  Courier dropoffs have been contactless.  I have had courier pickups but every one has been boxed and has sat in my boot for 24 hours before collection (viruses don't last on cardboard).  Having an electric boot lift on my wagon has been handy for this to let the courier grab the package, where normally I think of it as 'just another gimmick that can go wrong'.  I did not want to catch and pass it on to anyone.  If I'd not already had that Day 5 test, my concern would likely have been higher.

Today was supposed to be supermarket day.  Though the cupboard were not exactly bare, I did want some essentials.  Absolutely lucked out half an hour ago with a Countdown delivery slot tomorrow.

As above, sure thing.

A reminder for anyone in the same boat, who has booked through the government website/phone but manages to get a jab earlier, remember to cancel that govt booking so it can be taken by someone else. It seems some people have been omitting to do this.
