Im a Mental health RN of 40 plus years standing.

I work in a Forensic Rehab unit at Waikato hospital.

I have to wear a mask when im working on the ward since ages ago. I wear specs which makes it more uncomfortable to wear the whole shift.

Pts escorted  walks have been curtailed due to Covid 19 and visitors to the unit are also stopped until lvl 2. This made it more difficult for the pts and therefore the environment on the ward was not so good. Luckily these have been reinstated over the last few days which helps.

Ive just had a months holiday. Level 3 in Waikato a week or so before I started my holiday and now level 2 the day I started back at work. So during my holidays I didnt go anywhere apart from the odd day trips. Tell you what though the garden is looking the best it has in a while. I know this is nothing compared to the folk in Auckland but this is my experience.

How do you get out of auckland if your covid test results take longer than 3 days to receive?

Happened to my son yesterday, planned his trip into and out of auckland meticulously, sorting out car, equipment, and so on (has valid reason)...but, he couldn't go because he was still waiting for covid results and the 72 hours expired yesterday too.

Can't call anyone, healthline just say they don't have the results and they are the wrong people to call...but, they won't tell you who to call.... this ruined the entire day for him as he had appointments that needed cancelling and he had spent so much time planning the day trip into auckland and back.

Had a friend go through the same thing - ended up having to get a second test that did come through in time.

Not much you can do, i would recommend getting a test as close to the 72h as possible, to try get the result back, if you havent had it come back within 24 hours (following day by about 4pm) go get a second one.

Popped into our local chemist today to book a booster for next week. The lady running it said they had approval to start giving them for walk ins today and did I want it now?

Yep. No queue, a 15 minute observation wait, all done!

It doesn’t show on my vaccine record yet, but I expect that won’t happen administratively until the 29th.

We got the note at work today; vaccine pass must be shown to work in the office; no pass you work at home.
To be reviewed in Feb and they don't intend working from home to be a long term solution.

My nephew, always a fairly strong-willed kid with an attitude of resisting pretty much any common sense thing given by an adult, has declared himself, his girlfriend will not be getting vaxxed due to the 'experimental' nature of the vaccine. They have a 6 week old baby who we were really excited to be able to see in a few days, now I just don't think it's worth the risk to everyone involved.  I tried to open a conversation with him about how much riskier and how much worse getting COVID was compared to potential side effects, but you can tell when someone isn't interested in your approach.  It's fairly discouraging and disappointing. Thankfully, he isn't totally anti-vax and his baby will get his 6-week vaccinations. He has said he will get it if his workplace requires it. I guess we have to wait it out with them and let them see how restrictive life will be as unvaccinated and hope their family don't get it in the meantime. He apparently has a 'friend' who has been bedridden for months since getting it and he doesn't want to end up in the same situation. It's just so frustrating and sad.

I have an anti vax friend who I haven't managed to convince. He's a personal trainer so rather than get it to continue earning a living in a gym he's trying to set up his garage with gym equipment and thinks he'll keep training some of his clients privately from his house. His partner is a paramedic so would have thought there would be some medical sense and knowledge. They have a one year old who is completely unvaccinated.

I thought it was against the law to deliberately endanger small kids!?

I know a lot of people have a story like this, but one of the most vocal antivaxxers around is someone we know. We don't know them well, but well enough to hear that after having a child, that child ended up in a hospital with whooping cough. She described it as the worst 2 weeks of her life and is now a total vaccination advocate. She has done some fantastic work and made some fantastic progress with some of her previously followers in converting them.

I was all excited to finish work today - tomorrow I drive to Christchurch and then onto Nelson for car meetup

Except the meet is now cancelled because of the growing number of COVID cases in Nelson.

Now I am unsure what to do - do I continue up to Nelson to continue my original plan with additional precautions, head to Christchurch and try to figure out different plan from there or cancel it all and stay in COVID free lands

This would also need a "huge things that really annoy you" thread to be posted in: The utterly idiotic set of pointless hurdles people wanting to get the Covid pass have to jump. Spent quite a bit of time today helping a neighbour get their one, they couldn't sign up for My Vaccine Pass because it thought their email address was already in use despite them never having signed up before, it wouldn't recognise their driver's license, they don't have a RealMe account, eventually they got in with a birth certificate. Then they had to install Google Pay to store it (why TF doesn't the Covid tracer app allow this?), set up a lock screen sign-in, and at the point where they were asked to set up fingerprint ID with no end to the hurdles in sight they gave up.

These are not nuclear weapons launch codes! It's a pass to allow you to have a cup of tea with a friend.

It's no wonder that nearly a million people have been unable to get their Covid pass, they've made the process so extraordinarily difficult and unworkable that despite their best efforts people are unable to get them. Which means that any unvaxxed person now has a reasonable excuse for getting into a pass-only place, "I tried to get the pass but couldn't, but trust me, I'm vaxxed".

@neb: (why TF doesn't the Covid tracer app allow this?)

Explained it a couple of times in the appropriate thread.

Ah, didn't see that one, too many threads to follow. OTOH the "security" excuse is nonsense, they're taking an unencrypted PDF sent in plaintext email that people are encouraged to print out multiple copies of and wave at anyone who asks and treating it as if it was nuclear weapons launch codes.

If anyone really wants to find out whether you're vaxxed, or anything else in the pass, they'll just grab it from the unencrypted, unsecured email on your phone, completely ignoring any Google Pay security.

What my neighbour eventually ended up doing was saving the PDF from email and setting up a PDF reader which she can call up to display the Covid pass. Or at least I did it for her, so she could get the pass on her phone. About a million other NZers presumably won't have someone available to do this for them.

Now that Auckland is moving to the traffic light system, I guess it's time to order one of these:
