Staring at us to stay stay home.

Might not be as tight as 'isolation' itself. But 'stay home' in some cases for people that don't work from home or are retired. ..

That's standard health advice for any illness - stay home until you are well. It has a different purpose to 'isolation'.

At my mother's rest home there's a "Memory Loss" (dementia) facility which is secured to prevent the residents from wandering away from the property and becoming lost. They are not mask wearing... they'd simply tear the mask off, and they are not kept isolated from each other as it would be cruel to lock them in their rooms. They are all triple jabbed. They mingle socially with each other but there are no "intimate" relationships going on, and every person is the sole resident of their own room and has a private bathroom.

Of the 18 residents, 17 caught Omicron COVID. As far as I know, none passed away, despite all being elderly and several frail.

It would appear that Pfizer 3-jab protection from break-through infection is minimal or non existent, but protection from severe symptoms or death is very high.

A strange by product of Covid for me, A few years ago I lost my sense of smell and taste thought to be caused by medication I was on at the time. However since getting Covid my sense of smell and taste has returned, go figure. No idea why but I will take it.

That's quite a silver lining!

Its like it did a Ctrl-Alt-Delete on the thing that controls taste, so it reset that to BAU?

We same to be past peak Omicron where I live now.  I've been RAT tested 5 days per week for about a month now, negative each day, despite a couple of instances of what felt like start of a cold or similar, for 12 hours. Knock on wood, it stays this way.

I have to say the level of infection and associated disruption I've seen at work and outside of work has been minimal.

I like that analogy. I just hope the patch doesn't Blue Screen 😀

It is truly weird. It came back during the three days that I was sitting in the queue to the Pearly Gates.

I wonder if the affected cells, which may have had residual infection, were cleaned out by your immune system and replaced with all “undamaged” cells.

A pity that didn't happen to my son.

He's had no sense of smell for a few years - he's 14, so you can imagine how delightful it is having a teenager who literally can't smell his own BO!

MRI, ENT appointment etc - haven't been able to find any cause. He had COVID a couple of weeks ago but no change for him...

I lost my sense of smell and taste following Chemotherapy to try and stabilise my autoimmune system. My GP is somewhat baffled as to why  Covid would restore this but as he said its a bonus we will gratefully accept. He is talking to colleagues

to see what they think. There are some other promising developments but I am trying not to think about that too much right now as I don't want hopes dashed.

Had to go home sick from work for the first time in about six years. Felt OK this morning, then dropped off a cliff towards the end of the day and couldn't stay inside an office. Did a negative RAT at work earlier so stuck around and felt better, but have had a second wave and abanoned play for the day.

If this isn't it then whatever it is feels quite weird, whatever it is, almost totally fine again and then having to drive home because I was worried I wouldn't be able to concentrate.

To make things even worse, I have a 10 month old recovering from his first ever bout of a runny nose. It's possible he's evovled something that I as a mid-30s adult just have no answer for, but if it is Covid then I'm just relieved he's doing better.

Daughter came home on Saturday to see family who are over from Netherlands tomorrow.

After dodging every bullet at Canterbury with it ripping through the students and her friends, she's just tested positive.

So that means we lock up for another seven days right, it's more than 10 days since we ended our previous isolation. My wife and I both had it last month but youngest didn't.

[E] hmmm
So the website I read said we all have to isolate again as it's been >10 days since our last isolation.

My daughter saw another saying I'm ok to go out because it's inside 3 months.

Both MOH sites.

At the RAT collection point they say only those who haven't had it should isolate. I'm free to go about BAU.

My interpretation ...

If you were previously a household contact, but did not test positive yourself, then there is the 10 day window - "

  • After the initial isolation period ends there is a 10-day window during which no Household Contacts of the original case can be re-classified as Household Contacts. You only need to begin isolation again during these 10 days if you test positive yourself.
  • 10 days after the original isolation period ends the usual rules apply. If a new household member (not the original case) tests positive, they and all other Household Contacts (who have not yet become cases themselves) must isolate for 7 days."

If you did test positive at some point, then :

  • A recovered case is exempt from becoming a Household Contact for 90 days after their recovery.
