My 12-Year-old had his first Jab today! He was pretty anxious, but seemed to settle when I reminded him we are doing it for him, but just as importantly, so we can protect those who cannot get it for themselves for legitimate reasons. Was kinda cool because someone in the waiting room for a doctor overheard it, and said she had decided to have one as a result of that logic. She had one when we were there waiting to go.

One of my student's (15) parents won't let her get vaccinated as apparently their doctor said "The vaccine should be fine for you but I wouldn't recommend you have your daughter get it as it hasn't been fully tested yet and the long term effects aren't known.

Note said by student so ...

Had 2nd jab this morning at the AKL CBD centre

Booked for 9am, but walked in around 0830.

Had to sanitise hands, wear a second mask over my own and scan in.

Registration was easy with the purple card, I was told I didn't need to show it anymore

2 other people in the main queue and was quickly jabbed in the right arm.

15 min wait rather than the 20

All round, all good!

The little things make the biggest difference.

Holy Moly.

My son got home, and ended up on a zoom with his class, proudly announced he had a vaccine and specifically mentioned why it was important for him, but also for all the people who legitimately can't. I was really proud.

Hopefully, that message gets from the kids to the parents and the kids can ask for them to be done.

Both me and my wife received MoH Vaccine letters today - just informing us that we can now book.

Similar format to Electorate mail outs.

However in other news it has been reported that Covid 19 has been fully tested and the long term effects are well known. 🤨

Need a specialised drug for a family member, there's a global shortage due to Covid (not a covid drug per se - but I think it's probably made using the same chemical intermediates and in the same plants as some covid treatments).  Hospital specialists have tried to source it for the past two weeks - no luck - there's none in NZ.  They've investigated re-purposing an available drug - but it's kind of dodgy - maybe as a last resort. Bugger.

The three of us in this house received nothing - perhaps because all of us registered within hours of bookings being made available to our respective age bands in group 4, last one made this morning at 5am.

Did you book as soon as that age group was opened up?

The optimistic side of me hopes that they select people who haven't booked to send letters to, thus saving wasted paper and postage.  The pessimist side says government departments aren't so good at that kind of thing.

I hope they find some or at the very least an acceptable alternative. This is the side of the pandemic that isn't being seen by most of the public.

I wish your family especially the person directly affected all the best. You'll be in my thoughts.

I saw something funny about the latest iPhone the other day. The original took 7 years of development, the latest one, *only* a year. If you buy one, you'll have 5G inserted into your life, and the government, law enforcement, and private business will have access to all your information....... :)

In laws got the "your vaccinations are cancelled, please drive across Auckland instead" on the morning of their vaccination. Apparently they just went to the next nearest clinic as a walk-up and got seen. Now seeing other people booked from the Westgate vaccination centre who were booked in who also got the flick on Twitter. What a mess.

Thanks.  It's not life-threatening fortunately, but if treatment can't be obtained or it doesn't respond there's a greater risk of permanent disability.

We booked our 16yo in at the same place we are booked (we are booked for 26th Sept) and the earliest he could get in was 9th Oct.

Tried many, many other locations and they are booked out until at least November.

14yo will just have to come with us and we'll likely take our 16yo as well to see if they can take him as a walk-in.

Amazes me when I see people are able to get in straight away - we booked weeks ago and as I have mentioned, I suffer a bit from both extreme needle-phobia and anxiety, but the wait is literally killing me.

To make matters worse, my 14yo shares my needle-phobia and is also having sleepless nights thinking about being vaccinated.

Please don't tell me it doesn't hurt and the needle is small etc...that makes no difference - it could be microscopic and we'd both still be wracked with anxiety over it...it's a phobia - it defies logic.

I am going to speak to my doctor about getting something to settle the nerves...

If a 12-15 year old wants the vaccination they can get it without parent/guardian consent!
