I would mount them so they are eye level, if they have to hold them in their hands looking down it will be worse for car sickness.

We have always done well with the portable DVD players mounted on the back of the headrests. Large age gap so each can choose what they wanted to watch. Also transferable between vehicles and can be used away from the car with a 240v power supply normally supplied.

Older child moved onto iPad from about age 8. So we now just load the movies he wants to watch on that. Versatile and almost limitless choice of activities aside from movies. I like the idea of mounting them at eye level but we never had any issues with motion sickness so we were lucky there. Expensive by comparison but great devices for travel, incl flying.

Sounds idyllic but can't quite face singing High Five songs or playing eye-spy for a journey of several hours.









Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation
