Is there NO "rule of etiquette" to wait while someone is completing a 3 point turn anymore?

Twice in the last half hour, people have cut past a driver completing one while shill at a right angle to the kerb!

It is rare around here to actually see someone wait!

word of warning to anyone traveling through Rotorua add some travelling time to your trip as they have shut down highway 5 / Old Taupo Road and everyone is detoured through city and suburban streets and that includes all the trucks it is bedlam. at stages almost a big parking lot

We had family over yesterday and the traffic quickly became the #1 talking point.

I usually stop and wait well clear. The same in cases where the driver has made a terrible decision and the driver should have moved on and turned somewhere sensible. Happens.

Yeah, you'll even get filthy looks, people trying to push past and occasional tooting when you dare to back your trailer into your own driveway.

Like, sorry mate, I'm pretty good at backing so I'm getting it done as fast as I can, but you'll have to wait fractionally longer than the milliseconds you are prepared to wait.

It is interesting to see how our footpath parking fines compare to those in Australian states. I'm pretty sure it's $40 here, which is really pathetic.

There's a good reason for that. If you refer to any state or territory legislative instrument, you'll see that the fine is not denominated in dollars, but instead in "penalty units". The sole exception to this is Heavy Vehicle fines, because those are harmonised through the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator so it would be confusing to be denominated in a unit that is valued differently depending where you are.

Mobile phone usage while driving is valued at, I think, 7.5 penalty units and four demerits (the limit is 12) in Queensland. Every year, the value of a penalty unit is indexed to CPI, meaning a single act of parliament needs to be updated for every single fine to increase by the CPI amount. In NZ, where the fine amount is written into law, every single infringement offence law would need to separately be updated through the parliamentary process. Even the Heavy Vehicle Law has an indexing clause, stating that the act of updating their website with new fine amounts increases the fine to match. It should be noted that if you decide to contest the fine, you need to make sure you have a good excuse because the maximum fine that a court can impose is up to 10 times what the infringement notice amount is (e.g. the aforementioned mobile phone offense goes from 7.5 PU to 40).

I suspect that's why the NZ penalties haven't been updated since like 1950.

Hardly crime of the century, or even muppetry of the week, to be honest. Looks like hydrant could be accessed if required
Just a tradie getting a job done. What problems is this causing for anyone?

Nope - over the circle etc, selfish lazy Tradie who had a choice of parks albeit during the NO STOPPING time! Beside a group of 27 units for the elderly and disabled!

Makes it real hard to see traffic approaching from their right on exiting the driveway! But hey that's ok as you say, and the driver is not around to see what sort of chaos he causes!

Causes the Lemming effect of ignoring all the rules etc, as others see it is "ok"  to park and ignore any rules etc! (Easier to use someone else's "brain" than their own!)

Uh, no. The riser they have to fit to the hydrant port requires all of the space above the hydrant. The problem this causes is that in the event of a fire, the hydrant is essentially inaccessible to the firies unless they just grin and ram the van out of the way with the significant bumper installed on the front of the truck. If you think this is acceptable, one wonders if you've done it yourself. I would hope not.

Quite hard to tell from the photo but to me it looks like you could open that cover and fit a standpipe.  Don't think I've ever parked on one myself, very astute of you to deduce that I may have.

But my point was that of all the muppetry we've seen on this thread, this is hardly an OMG what a muppet moment.  Guess I have very low Karen tendencies. YMMV

Huh. So, the answer is "yes you have" then. Quite unfortunate.

Parking in a fashion that even inconveniences emergency services trying to abate an emergency is definitely a "what a muppet" moment. I cannot even imagine the sort of mentality that doesn't understand that. And I don't want to.

Also, it's pretty clear from that image that the fittings firies use would not be able to be used without removing that van - what world are you on?
