Better not to have to deal with the aftermath either way.

I was driving on the motorway in the morning this week. Early enough that it was still dark. Came up on a motorcycle with a broken tail light. He was wearing black. Would've seen him a lot sooner if he'd at least been wearing a hi-viz vest. He definitely saw me giving him the stinkeye as I went past him.

My 2 week old vehicle was almost dstroyed last night by a knob in a ute towing a rather large boat. I was stopped in a line of traffic and he obviously didn't see it. Screaming tires and smoke behind me and a skid mark in my undies... luckily he just missed me as he managed to get into the other lane and slide up next to me. Might scotch guard the drivers seat just in case 💩

Having been rear-ended at speed last week, I can feel ya. My undies from that day will never be worn again.

Unfortunately there are quite a few in the "🚲 2 wheel 🏍" community who well and truly deserve the "Darwin Award" ☠️.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Some more redlight antics.  4-wheel and ~18-wheel this time.

Wow, that's amazing - especially the logging truck! Did you happen to get the number plate?

Yes we did.  Mrs Floyd has reported to the police.

Police will write them another 'don't do that' letter. If you make an official complaint and are prepared to stand up in court, then the police may prosecute.

Filling out an unsafe driver report achieves little in the way of actual enforcement, but is possibly useful for contributing to their intelligence database.  If that truckie is prepared to do it once, probably done it before and will do so again in future.

Even with webcam footage, this is just another dangerous incident amongst thousands of others occurring on a daily basis.

Police should update their policies around dashcam footage of dangerous driving ....video is more compelling evidence than a simple online form. But, police don't even tell you if they are interested in video.

Understood, and don't really want the hassle, and potential backlash, of maybe having to go to court so we'll consider the reporting of dangerous driving as 'having done our little bit.'

Just speaking to a Fisheries officer about this.  Rather than police policies this may be more to do with NZ's current search and surveillance legislation tying their hands somewhat...but I don't know the details sorry.

I live very close to that intersection; crashes are common, and unfortunately deaths are not uncommon either.

A motorcyclist died recently after a T-Boning, but in that case, from memory, he was the one that ran the red light.

Personally, I always double-check the traffic coming from the left before I cross over that lane (the lane the truckie blew thru the lights in) despite my light being green...
