Took the car in today to be looked at, the boot seal was apparently the cause of the issue and was replaced
I guess the next time it rains I will know if that has worked or not. Have a feeling it wasn't the cause but I know nothing about vehicles so I expect to be wrong

nzkiwiman: Smith & Smith confirmed left tail light cluster is causing the leak
I have booked the car in for Monday to be repaired based on this information

What boot seal was replaced? If it had nothing to do with the tail light what's happened to the advice from S&S?

After another night of rain, I checked the boot today and sure enough I had a small padding pool in the boot again
So yes, the boot seal was not at fault (it could have been part of the trouble, but not the full reason)

As I can't afford at the moment to go to another garage I will get out the dye this weekend and throw it on the back of the car and see what happens.
