Whats going on the other end of it ? speaker \ amp setup etc ?.

Having done a full audio install recently I saved $$ on headunit and went for a Pioneer MP3 \ CD for around $130, money saved was better spent on quality front speakers. Other than a ton of features you wont likely use and paying for the name, Alpine wont give you much more.

The features on pioneer that I found real useful

- dual pre outs for front amp and sub amp
- subwoofer control (phase, crossover and level)
- decent EQ with level control
- good sound quality
- 2 custom EQ memory settings

If not running a subwoofer then Focal 6.5" speakers sound great straight of the 4x50W headunit. Amp wise you can pick up Clarion APX2121 (2 x 60RMS) for next to nix, decent amp for around $60...I managed to score 2 for $80 ( 1 for running front components and 2nd bridged for powering an 8" sub at 1x140RMS)

Have a snoop around JB Hifi also... They had some double din touchscreen Sony's for around that money which if i recall had bluetooth and option to fit reverse camera. Not sure on the DSP capabilities but i would expect them to be no greater or lesser than a $250 alpine

Do you need single or double din?

I have an Alpine double din unit that was around $250, it is a very good unit but only has 1 set of preouts.

Waiting for the Carplay unit to come to NZ

Why do you want a CD player and no bluetooth? That's the opposite of me.

There are many choices, but don't limit to Alpine.

JVC, Sony and Pioneer should also be considered and will give equal or better bang for your buck.

no need for Bluetooth...cds and a mp3 player..just like the alpine look I guess...would consider another brand ...some of the cheaper ones look ugly though lol

I just find that I can never be bothered plugging the phone in with the car with only an aux in, whereas with bluetooth you hop in, start the car and it pairs and starts playing whatever was last playing. Turn the car off and it pauses the phone ready for next time.

the head unit makes electricity ... (any old thing also happens to do just that)

the speakers make the sound ...

just make sure you take that into consideration

Bluetooth is great for handsfree, I use it quite a bit and it works well with my Pioneer headunit.
There's two rear USB ports, but sadly I didn't run a second cable so I could use my phone as a GPS on the dashboard...
Oh well, that'll come later I suppose.
