How? if they were giving birth would you not slow down and go behind any waiting traffic at the light so as to reduce/minimise the likelihood of an accident?

4 seconds into a green and some drivers would already be half way over the intersection.

This happened to me, woman ran a red right turn arrow (i saw her comming) and ended up comming to a stop over 2 lanes of traffic after having to jam on the brakes because she was on her way to hitting me. I was just pulling away from the lights and was in no way shape or form in any danger of being hit, but it sure gave her a fright and something to think about next time she tries to run a red.

now here's another one. http://www.stuff.co.nz/motoring/64822052/footage-of-bad-driving-goes-viral 
bus overtakes and "does not complete manouevre by end of passing lane"; 4wd towing something "didn't see him coming", was "shocked", police thinks the bus driver is "wrong because he didn't complete the task by the end of the overtaking lane" 

seriously, how else was the bus going to get past? do it in a non passing lane? he didn't see the bus coming - doesn't the road code require car to check his mirrors? on cruise control at 92 in the passing lane - i hope he didn't lie. some very slow cars speed up like crazy "without realizing"

PS what is the speed limit of a bus? if it's 90 the towing car might be going at 80 all along and decided to do 92 in the passing lane? just playing devil's advocate

now i see this all the time, heavy transport passing light and heavy transport. i don't know whether they're right or wrong to pass, but i believe some are, some aren't. but it can appear close because they are big and can't accelerate.

Cruising at around the 90 mark i'll often catch up to those that have overtaken me as traffic rarely maintains such speeds over long distances.

The bus was clearly meant to complete the manoeuvre inside the overtaking zone,not after it. Or stay behind the guy and most likely arrive at it's destination at the same time anyway.

Maximum speed for a bus in a 100km/h zone is 90km/h, and the same for the vehicle towing the trailer.

If it was a school bus then it's 80km/h.

Your speedo is obviously wrong!!  The trucks have those signs on the back saying they are speed limited .. must be true!!!!

i've never seen one going at 90. always between 90 and 100. but then my speedo might be overestimating (as most speedos do).

Don't they have tachographs in trucks here?

In the EU, all trucks must have them since 1986 and police can carry out a tacho check whenever they wish. Infringements are severely dealt with.

nothing so advanced as a tachograph.

last time i looked (about a decade ago) it was logbooks and mechanical hubodometers (separate odometer mounted in a rear wheel hub) in godzone.

Ah well then. The solution to speeding trucks & buses and  drivers abusing hours worked regulations has existed for at least 30 years: I can only assume our politicians do not care.

I too didn't see all too much wrong with that, rather 'normal' AKL driving behavior.  He would have clearly seen the bus behind him wanting to pass.... Towing and driving under the speed limit on cruise control doesn't somehow mean you are exempt from looking at what is behind you, and reacting to it. 

I can only imagine that it was a slow day in the Stuff office.

*Most* transport companies these days track via GPS.

I had a call from a boss one day asking why I was doing 97. It was to keep the line of traffic behind me moving until we could reach a passing lane in about 5km since 2 cars had passed me dangerously and at least 2 more were looking at doing the same. There was nowhere for me to safely pull over (semi trailer). I reached the passing lane and slowed to let them all pass and then continued on my way doing 92.
Sometimes the speed limit between trucks and cars is stupid and dangerous on NZs single lane roads.

And when car drivers get a 9km/h leeway on the speed limit, trucks get 4. So our company had alerts for trucks doing 95+.
