I bought 09 Axela few days ago and just found some rust just above the brake pedal.
Some reckon it is not even the factory welding, what you think guys?

I don't know how I missed it before buying the car but now I took it back to the dealer to check.

I would say that unless your windscreen is leaking then this is probably caused by condensation during the colder months or possibly during transit due to temperature changes.

I would simply put some rust killing primer on it and then paint it black. Use a brush otherwise you will make a mess if you spray it. It looks like its only surface rust so the chances of it letting go are very slim, most internal bracing in cars isn't painted to save time and costs.

If your really worried see your mechanic.

Also they are factory welds as they are way to clean to be done by afterwards.

It's really not a big deal, I wouldn't stress about it. And that certainly looks like a factory weld to me.

This is typical of used Japanese Import.

Its minor rust don't worry about it, as said before paint it with rust killer and later paint it black

Do you have any idea where in Japan your car came from, they have fairly hot and steamy summers, so rust like this is not unexpected on an unprotected weld

Surely the plating is applied after the welding and should cover the welds?  I started out as a toolmaker so welding was not my primary job, but so long as the old welds were ground off, my grannie could do welds like that with MIG.   Is it possible that the vehicle was swapped from left to right rand drive?  Could it have been rebuilt after a serious accident? Is the vehicle NZ New?

We had a database in the UK where you could check history to see if a vehicle had ever been written off.  A quick Google found this, and it appears to be free.

It's a JDM import and that bar is part of the dash, not the car structure. The extremely mild surface rust is pretty normal on a 5 year old car. Let's not overthink this one....
