I have similar thoughts to RichMS.  Dash Cams seem  to be based on an assumption that it will clearly be the other persons fault.  Just as likely to record your own mistake.  I guess if you have a micro SD card model, you could always eat the card.

If you're a driver that wants a dash cam, the likely hood is that the other person will be at fault.

I'd much rather the judge see footage of the anyone that decides to hit me instead of relying on a sob story.  A sob story that usually ends up in adjudicated blame or something stupid like that.  Nothing more frustrating than a bias judge listening to a he said/she said story and siding with the poor mother of 3 that failed to give way and cursing the "boy racer" that was "speeding" on the main road in the modified race car that had the right of way and had no time to stop.

I see some pretty weird and wonderful things on my travels too.  I've always wanted to capture them, haha :)

We like to watch Britcam on C&I.  It endlessly makes the point of how beneficial body cams are turning out to be for police, as well as inboard cameras for taxis.  The police find them a goodsend because people are such lying barstewards.  They play up, get arrested, start kicking and spitting at the cops, and then shout foul when the cops have to get them on the ground to put the cuffs on.  And naturally passers by don't get their iPhones out till after the bad guy stops spitting and kicking.

Yes, I didn't think it would go so viral.

My reasoning for having a dashcam is that people can drive around without insurance in this country (looney tunes if you ask me).

So my thinking is that if I have the "luck" of having a fender bender with one of these uninsured drivers, there is a good chance they will try to pin it on me. Having video proof of what happened will be very useful in that situation.

If only you were making some money from it!

Sure is a nice dash cam though.

Only reason I want one is I was involved in an accident with a taxi driver whereby he completely fabricated the event, where it occurred and what I had said. The end result was me losing at the disputes tribunal, so having footage would have helped in my case.

Can't follow your logic here - is it something like "drivers who want dash-cams are better than average drivers?"

I'd like to think I'm abetter than average driver.  But I'm probably biased in my thinking.

There are people that think they can drive and there are people that can actually drive.  People who plod around with a "She'll be right" attitude thinking everyone will stop for them is very unlikely to have any kind of recording device in their car.  Considerate people who drive defensively and drive according to the road rules are more likely to have a dash cam as a defensive measure against the inconsiderate loonies who don't care about your life or in some cases, their life.  Let alone your car door in a parking lot.

I consider myself better than average 95% of the time.  We all have our days were mind rot gets the better of us and accidents, close calls and stupidity happens.  But if someone fails to give way, crashes in to your car, no WOF or registration, hub caps, muffler and a cracked windscreen, I'm going to go ahead and guess you will be the only one with the dash cam.

timmmay: What I'd like is a dashcam with a "mark" button. I report bad drivers through the police website but I can only do that if I can remember the plate or have someone with me to write it down. What would be handy is a "mark" button so I could review, and ideally an upload from my car to my PC via WiFi.

My DOD LS460W has a yellow exclamation mark button.
When you press it it saves the clip it is currently recording in a special folder so you can easily find it afterwards.

Different subject but bodycams are certainly VERY useful for police officers
This happened in my town in July
