Just happened across this series in a reference to Barry Sheene, but series two has three episodes featuring Stirling Moss and Colin McRae.  I've watch some of the Barry Sheene program this evening, and it is  outstanding.  I met Barry when he worked with his dad out the back of a London hospital in their Bultaco business.  I think I was after yet another set of mains and big end bearings for my 250 Scrambles bike.  I can remember Barry riding a trials bike in and out of the scaffold poles near their make shift garage.

Can't wait to watch the Barry Sheene episode fully.  He was a real star!

I guess this is a different series from BBC's F1 Legends?

That was also excellent... interviews with the actual drivers... Stirling Moss, Jodie Scheckter are two that spring to mind.

it's just called bbc racing legends.

there have been 2 series of 3 episodes each.

generally excellent with a couple of lame ones - colin mcrae, barry sheen - lame hosts not subjects.

highlight is the first epsiode - sir patrick stewart meets his hero sir stirling moss.

I watched the Barry Sheene episode in full tonight.  OK Vic Reeves was maybe not the best choice to present it.  It was cringe worthy watching him crawl around Olivers Mount of Barry's World Championship winning Suzuki.  I bet 90% of the people who see the program wish they had the chance to ride that bike, and are sure they'd do it more justice.

I think the program missed a trick about Kenny Roberts.  As I remember it, Sheene and other European riders hated Roberts cornering style.  Roberts was said to 'Square' the corners. Braking really heavily into the apex and turning sharply so he get full power down sooner.  This messed up Bazza (so he claimed) because he wanted to carry more speed into the corner, but if Roberts was in front, he couldn't.   This theory was possibly made a lie by the last race of the (possibly) 78 season where Roberts was happy to follow Sheene for most of the race.  He even claimed he waved at Sheene telling him to get a move on because the rest of the pack were catching them! LOL  Sheene responded with a good old British V sign behind his back.

Looking forward to Sterling Moss now.  Not so much to Colin McRae.
