Tried the address in the OP on my Note 3 this morning. HERE, Sygic and Google Maps are all happy to take me there (via the ferry) from Auckland.

Maybe the Garmin was just having a bad day!?

Keep calm, and carry on posting.

This is from the Marlborough District Council property map.  The property title and all compliance documents are all listed as 2 Rose Street.

We had a conditional offer accepted for a section in Rose Street two years ago, but pulled out because it would have been utter madness.  Six months after we pulled out, the council announced permission had been given to build a dozen new properties on the open paddock next to the section we were going to build on.  I don't know what we were thinking, because it makes us shudder when we think how close we were to making the biggest mistake in our lives.

BigHammer: I haven't used a stand alone GPS unit for some time. Sygic or HERE Maps on my Note 3 has it covered.

Does it work with no cell coverage?

Councils do dumb things.

I used to pass a water meadow adjacent to the A14 in Cambridgeshire regularly. It was a water meadow for a reason - it flooded most winters and you could see ducks on it.

After a few years consent was granted to develop it into a housing estate...!! I had visions of Barratt Homes with self-inflating life rafts mounted on the wall outside the first floor bedroom window!

HERE and Sygic both have full maps stored on the device. Don't recall if I've tried either with mobile data turned off.

I often go places in NZ where there is no mobile data to turn off...! ;-)

Geektastic: Why would the motel itself give a wrong address on their own website?!

Because 2 Rose Street sounds much more quiet and peaceful than being on a State Highway

My nuvi 2497 finds the address ok. Part of the trouble may be Garmins cack handed search. You enter Blenheim then street number and start entering the street name and it will autocomplete with only the streets it thinks has that number in them.

I can feel a 'GPS forces tourists to drive the Rainbow road to get to Nelson' post or two coming on laughing.   I love that road.
