Swype on iOS is detrimental to accurate typing. Apologies in advance.

joker97: this is weird. I have not seen either of those 2 linked cars!

this is my search

< $10,000
2004 +
< 120,000 ks

no other restrctions!

maybe they put higher price brackets, or the search is a bit inconsistent. I know that when you hit advanced search everything goes wonky eg you can't alter the parameters, but rather have to start over.

You should also check Turners, although most of their's are often on trademe too. Your requirements are probably what a lot of buyers with young families are looking for. I would also suggest looking for a model that has electronic stability control, as that makes vehicles a lot safer. But it probably didn't become popular on models until around 2007 onwards. Autobase also has some cars on it that aren't on trademe, even though trademe now own autobase.

wow presage has 8 seats! thanks guys ... didn't know you can get 8 seats for under 7k ...

as for breakages ... everything breaks eventually. there are 2 main factors
1) how well built
2) how it's been used

so buying a jap import is pretty much luck of draw unless you know the previous owner

Here are my input for your consideration:

a) JDM toyota (assembled in Japan) will be of a better quality than NZ New - assebbled in Thailand or Australia.
b) WOF in Japan known as Shaken (車検) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motor-vehicle_inspection_%28Japan%29
is more sofisticated than in New Zealand and they DO change oil as required in Japan and not just "topping up" as many frugal locals do here. Meaning that by buying ex import from Japan you are getting better serviced car than second hand NZ New.
c) Toyota has the best self diagnostic system and the car can be not only mechanically but also electronically tested before you buy it (helped mate when he was buying "Wish" to do excactly that).
d) Have you heard that expression: "we are not that reach to buy cheap goods"?

Point is - cheap is not the best criteria for a car or any other purchase... $6K for a good Wish is "a wish". My mate bought it for much more - fresh import and still happy year later.

joker97: I had never come across single pressage or a stream from my trademe searches. Maybe they are priced more. So no i didn't and won't.

Presage

http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/nissan/auction-889193887.htm

a few there for under $6500 with less than 100,000 kms

2.5L

which is still not a bad engine size for that package

I see they are 8 seater as well.

Skirts on a people mover? really?

Haha.  Mine also has a full body kit. Changes its appearance from a plain van to something I am happy driving.

True. At least its not like those that put 20" Rims with low profile tyres on a SUV :)
