I just heard of someone's holden captiva (3.5 years old) had total transmission failure. And a 1 month old Holden astra with mild engine failure that was repaired just to get medium engine failure within 1 week ...

Both are first hand story so not been spiced up.

Yikes.  I'm not nearly as worried about the milage on a car or how new it is anymore.  I even think to an extent higher kms are better, since you know the cars good for it!

When I posted a "what to look out for" post on the BMW Facebook page, I got a plethora of different things I needed to look out for, change and generally be worried about.  When I posted the same thing about the Chaser, they pretty much just said service it and perhaps an aftermarket transmission cooler.  I'm assuming that was suggested as these cars are often used for drifting and burnouts.

DravidDavid:

Sold the BMW today in broken condition.  Just wanted it gone.  Apparently there was more wrong with it than I first thought.  I sold it as I diagnosed the fuel pump as the issue.  Guy comes with new pump, drives away just fine, tells me some other sensor might need replacing.

Not three hours later I found a 1997 Toyota Chaser 3.0L 2JZ VVT-i with 195K on the clock and just bought it.

Not only does it have 5 bajillion times the power, but it sits so much better on the road and has the best suspension I think I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing.  Digital dash, electric seats, frameless doors, full size spare, some weird magical electromagnetic suspension (sounds like a money bomb to replace it if it breaks) and surprisingly that awesome euro CLUNK when you shut the door.
All of this at half the price I purchased the BMW for and WAY more creature comforts.  We did the same thing as last time.  Drove it through the night to the nearest Countdown.  We wound down the window and and it didn't break, so I like it already.

I'm super jealous she gets to drive it daily and not me.

I had to Google that as I'd never heard of the car model. Looks fine and my experience of Toyota is that they are solid products that go on and on.

Seems to be very popular on the drifting circuit!

Ah! I'm possibly a tad old to be doing that! My days of going sideways around roundabouts are long past...and occurred before even the first Toyota design meeting for a 1997 car!

but I'm confused the Chaser didn't come factory with a 2JZ but with a 1JZ. Did you get a Toyota Aristo? These came witha factory 2JZ-GTE.

Hi,

Definitely a 2JZ VVT-i!  Had me double guessing myself for a second there.  It's a 1997 Toyota Chaser Avante G 3.0L (Engine Number: 2JZ-0570107)  Possibly an off-shoot or close cousin to the Aristo you mentioned.  Unfortunately, it's not the 2JZ-GTE.  I really wish it was, haha!

It's got 195,000Kms, near new tyres, roof racks and a full size matching alloy spare wheel.  Grabbed it for $1800.00

Audi A3.
Good little car, Same as a VW golf just nicer to look at and be in.

They are a nice car but I wouldn't reccomend one. I had mine for 3 years and it tried to bankrupt me, it was at the mechanics more often than not. In 2015 up intill I got rid of it in Oct I spent just under $5000 and it still wasn't running right. It got to the point where I wasn't enjoying owning it anymore as I was just waiting for the next breakdown. Now have a Honda Civic which drives nearly as well and it hasn't missed a beat since I've had it.

Auto non-turbo.  Pretty much opposite of what I'd want.  But it was a car for the girlfriend, and she really does not need twin turbos.  She needs fuel economy.  She also refuses to drive a manual box.  It's still Japanese 2JZ luxury for 1800 bucks though.

EDIT:  I'll post pictures as soon as it's clean, haha
