I pass Jaguar dealership every day - those look cool. I guess below certain age you choose cars which cost 1/3 then 1/2 of your age, and at some stage in life you start to afford cars which cost 2x of your age :-)

Gosh, if I could afford a vehicle 2x my age, it would have been the Lexus ES350 Limited - no question. Now where's that Lotto ticket? Mind you, at this rate the Jag is probably going to cost me the same just in fuel costs!

I am considering getting rid of my Xtrail and getting a small car. My wife has a Qashqai Ti and she will keep that.

Our vehicles are too embarrassing to post, but when I win the lotto, I'm going to be posting pictures of a flawless Rover SD1 Vitesse (preferably with a TVR 5 litre V8 installed), a Citroen CX Prestige (cause you can never have too much space or too comfy seats) a Citroen SM (cause who wouldn't) and a Maserati Khamsin (cause I still like Citroen bits)

What year is your Jag?

I prefer cars that cost more than my house (when they were new)... And I let lots of other people take the depreciation hit. :D

My V8 X5 is the most expensive car I've owned. And the newest, at 13yo next month.

2012, so 5 years old and very low Kms. I stopped buying new cars when I owned my own business and had to pay Fringe Benefit Tax! I had a Lexus prior to the Jag and I loved it, being very reluctant to swap out. Sadly I just could not justify the replacement cost for what is an average mileage of only 8,000 kms per annum. The X5 is very nice indeed. A mate has one and it is a pleasure to drive. He has just chipped his and mentioned that he is seeing fuel savings of 15% or more. I will have to look into that for the Jag, because it is very expensive around town.

What do you guys think about the Subaru XV?

For $39990 + ORC, it seems like you get quite a lot of features (including AWD, and a lot of modern tech goodies) for the price! The only drawback I can see here is its maximum power of 115kW at 6000rpms.

It is a tall Impreza.

I read somewhere they had issues with it for Car of the Year voting as it is the exact same body and engine and interior as the Impreza, but on a raised platform. It is classed as an SUV.

Yes it's sporty, and yes it's a vehicle.  I guess 2 out of 3 for classification?  By that token an Audi Allroad is a SUV, BMW xDrive, VW Passat Alltrack.  That's just wrong.  They're not that much taller, and should just be classed as cars.

It's an all in one lol.

I haven't seen it in real life, so can't tell if it's spacious or not. I wonder if it can fit a 55" + TV in there with seats folded down..

I have an irrational hatred for the XV. I don't like the look of it and I fail to see its purpose (that isn't already fulfilled by another model).

But don't let my opinion change your mind. I own a car that many people would call unattractive, but I love it.

Been away for a few years and thought I would wander back in.

Anyway, I started riding a motorbike a few years back. Started with a '90s Yamaha SR250 which had suffered a jailbreak of many of its ponies. As I am a fairly substantial lump of flesh, it struggled to take me up the slightest incline at a measly 80k and in moderate winds I was lucky to get 70. So I started to look at upgrading. The day before I was going to do a test ride, a cager cut across my while i was doing 50, about 3-4 metres in front of me. I ended up hitting the side of his car, just behind the wheel well. Over I went, doing what felt a very slow, very sloppy cartwheel. I would have failed at the car flip event as I failed to nail my landing and ended up with a spiral fracture of the fibula and some strained ligaments. Bike was written off due to frame damage and I spent the lovely summer of 2014/2015 stuck at home. The worst of it was that I live on a main road so heard all the bikes going past my place and I am thinking "That could have been me. You luck bastards!" :)

A month after getting out of the foot prison (six weeks in a cast, six weeks in a moon boot) I went and test road a Suzuki S40 and fell in love. Bought it there and then. 2 years later I forget to put it in the garage and it was stolen. Once the insurance paid out I looked for a replacement. After some cruiser test rides (limited to them by my stumpy legs) I decided on an XVS-650 (still on learners). Found one that I liked the look of, went down to take it for a test ride and bought it. I had tried the Harley Street 500 and hated it for several reasons, although the engine was not one of them. Been on a few club rides, although on one of them I did manage to slide it into a ditch. Superficial damage only (indicator lens, road rash on the end of the throttle and a straightend brake lever.

I was going to go down to Whakatane to look at the bike on the weekend before Easter but the the Edgecome flood happened and there was a lot of road closure due to storm damage, so we agreed I would come down on the following Wednesday. Yes, the Wednesday before Easter when the other half of the storm hit. The trip home was "interesting". Here I am, going down the Kaimai Ranges towards Matamata, in the wind, in the rain, in the dark, on a motorbike I did not know. My butt was puckered so tight that if I had farted it would have been outside the hearing range of bats. I did no more that 50k all the way down, riding the rear brake as much as I could. The only company I had were some trucks.

But I made it back home and feel that I know the bike well enough to go go for my restricted licence.

Just picked up a nice Range Rover 4.2 Supercharged. Needs a little cosmetic love here and there (little bits of trim with faded coatings etc) but mechanically very sound.

And the engine....
