Thanks guys. I'll check out youtube, wreckers, and supercheap :) Other than small details like this the car is really reliable, pretty cheap to run (though it seems to be using more petrol than it used to), and much more reliable than a friends Audi.

MikeB4: Repco and Supercheap sell dash pockets used when replacing a Double Din radio with a Single Din one of these may vey well do the trick except it wont have a latch door.

I don't see how, there isn't a problem with the pocket, just the door. Plus the pocket is cast into that entire dash part as you will see from the ebay links in this thred.

I just watched the youtube clip and looked at the ebay link. Seems like I need a whole new center console, but fitting it should be relatively easy. Or I just rip the door off and forget about it, since my phone (S4) doesn't fit in there anyway that might be good enough.

There are a few posts on Toyotanation about sticking magnetic strip to the flap or covering the resulting holes at the side.

My car doesn't cover any pocket so you don't have to break in to see they are empty.

Mine is actually broken, so I'd need to remove or replace, thanks.

Super glue? Not the cheap garbage glue, proper super glue. To make it stronger ( if you have the clearance on that hinge part), you can form a bead of superglue like a weld and then carefully sprinkle baking soda onto the wet bead of superglue to make a cold plastic weld.

That might fix the plastic, but the mechanism that closes it is stuffed too.

Air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, tune up - one of these may help.

timmmay:  it seems to be using more petrol than it used to

Ta. I just have it serviced regularly, they do change spark plugs. I'll mention it next time I get it serviced, thanks.
