richms: Sodiums in most places were not much more than the LEDs that replace them.

Perhaps it was another less efficient chemistry - Check the video link - I can't explain it as well as the experts.

kingdragonfly: A Close Look At The 2019 Rivian EV Pickup

Interesting how they made the comment around the back about being hard to reach into the bed so the tail gate folds to 180. My first thought when they opened the front up was that there was no way the average person was reaching in to get something from the bottom rear without a lot of effort and clothes scratching the front of the vehicle.

Interesting looking vehicle, the front looks odd with the headlights and the rather blunt frontal area. Not very aerodynamic. This is going to impact on range perhaps. The centre bar battery charge indicator feature seems abit odd.The gear tunnel is a clever idea.I think the  pooch is going to be happy in there.

Getting closer to the Model 3 release here...Tesla have just started the certification process in Australia https://thedriven.io/2019/05/27/tesla-australia-obtains-certification-for-model-3-with-two-variants-and-towing-capacity/

I'm assuming we're probably getting the same as what Australia is, which from the certification filings looks to be the AWD Long Range, AWD Performance and RWD Long Range.

Pretty close to the size of a Kia Picanto, about 100mm wider and same length.

Which means they will get clobbered by the 33% luxury car tax in OZ, :(,

- but on the plus side means Teslas will continue to be cheaper in NZ than in OZ :)

Not coming to OZ, ( nor presumably NZ)

" Speaking with CarAdvice, Kurt McGuinness, public relations manager for Skoda Australia, said: "We don’t have any current plans to introduce Citigo, in any configuration".

"Our [EV] strategy involves taking MEB- based cars only at this stage."

Yeah, I'm guessing it will come later but I'm surprised they didn't start with the Standard Range Plus model like they did with the UK which would probably slip under the threshold.

A better question would be if it is going to be released in the UK (as RHD). If so, then people will import them regardless. While obviously not a drivers car, $20K is pretty good for a car with a 36kW/h battery and that range.

If you consider the range & performance of the Model 3 performance version, it isn't bad value.  Either version offers a very practical range that would make the range available a non-issue to the majority of NZ drivers.  I'm talking about Auckland to Wellington only needing one stop for charging (though two shorter stops may suit some better).  And how often does the average NZ motorists drive for over 450km in a day anyway?

I really like seeing the increasing number of options for decent range EVs.  With the Model 3 standard, Model 3 performance, Hyundai Kona 64kWh, 2020 Kia Soul EV, Kia e-Niro, Nissan Leaf 62kWh, and many more makes and models to come - the future keeps getting better for EVs.

The standard Model 3 with the speed, acceleration and over 400km range is cheaper than I thought it would be at $74k, I'm pleasantly surprised!

I'm shifting house this weekend. The old house is being sold. Then I'm ordering a Tesla Model 3. I'd order it today if I know the house would be sold by August. I don't know that. :-)

I know the Model 3 is quite roomy, but as a replacement for a house??? 😁
