Beats me how they make a big loss then a profit then rinse and repeat. They say peak Tesla has passed, as its finacial support has fibnished and other manufacturers ramping up

"They" are very likely wrong. Tesla has vertically integrated most of its supply chain. Tesla can already make 10 times as many EVs as anyone else.....and now Shanghai is coming online.

Tesla's cash flow is great. Any profit or loss is a reflection of the aggressive ongoing investment in more capacity and cutting costs to achieve economies of scale.

The other automakers have achieved this with fossil fuel cars, but *no one* is close when it comes to making EVs.

Tesla has a lead of almost a decade.

Not really jaw dropping to anyone who actually follows the fundamentals. The model 3 is extremely popular and extremely profitable.

The Model 3 is one of the most profitable cars in production.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-autos-tesla-study/tesla-model-3-is-most-profitable-electric-car-consultant-idUSKBN1K71VV

The model 3 is the most popular car or the most popular in its class in many countries.

UK: https://www.theweek.co.uk/electric-cars/103130/best-selling-cars-in-august-2019-tesla-model-3-storms-into-the-top-10

Netherlands: https://interestingengineering.com/tesla-model-3-becomes-best-selling-vehicle-in-the-netherlands-reaching-10000-units

USA: https://www.cnbc.com/2019/01/08/teslas-model-3-was-2018s-best-selling-luxury-car-in-us.html

The biggest problem is that Tesla simply can't make them fast enough and they make them faster than many other brands are made.

The production life cycle of Tesla models is also much longer than traditional ICE makers. Very few other brands can sell the same model unchanged for as long as Tesla has with the S and X, which reduces Tesla's R&D, redesign and re-tooling overheads.

Gee, another crossover. And a concept one at that. Still at least it’s more than a pumped up Leaf.

Lexus LF-30 Electrified: The future of Lexus design is shocking

Roadshow

With an electric motor at each of its four corners and an edgy design between, Lexus' latest vision is pretty wild -- and we haven't even mentioned the floating drone.

Nice car, price, features. Why do they have physical wing mirrors?? I watched a youtube of a small EV recently, no mirrors, its done by cameras. With all the aero design going on and we still have warts on either side

It reminds me of something you might find living in the Mariana Trench, in the dark.

afe66: Isn't 16A one phase otherwise known as a caravan plug...
A 32A can connect at lesser amps without issue but not the reverse.
As 32A sockets at destinations continue to expand you might regret limiting yourself to 16A in future.

Identifying the cable current capacity is the purpose of the PP resistors installed in each plug.

Looks like an effort to meet the Tesla Model Y head on......if Nissan can make enough of them and their battery is large enough and the battery tech has evolved beyond passive air cooling.

The features sound great. Interestingly, the list of features is competitive so we may be starting to see a move toward price being a bigger differentiator. I wonder if Nissan can make enough of them? So far, this is the Achilles heel of every EV maker.....including Tesla. Though not being able to meet the market demand is probably a good thing because.....what do you do the next month? :-) It makes more sense to stay slightly behind the demand curve (2-3 months or more) and be ahead on features, then later be ahead on price. This seems to be what Tesla are working day and night on. Their factory in Shanghai was built in 10 months and was 65% cheaper than setting up the US gigafactory.

I'm just annoyed I sold my Tesla shares for a modest profit last week.....and missed out on the US$45/share jump last night. But then I wasn't going to gamble they didn't make a profit....and lose $45 / share overnight. I did OK.

Tesla is about to begin building a new gigafactory in the EU. :-)

It will be interesting to see how that goes. They (the EU contractors, govts and regulators) will have some pride at stake having just seen the China gigafactory built and moving into production in less than a year. It will be a direct comparison of how easy it is to build a business.....

Pros: I understand uses more automation, less people, than usual to build their cars.

So hopefully less problems with quality in China.

Cons: they want to build as many cars as possible, which almost always means quality will suffer.

Plus there's the extra burden of new staff, made worse by the language barrier.

Anyhow since I want to own one, one day, I wish them luck.

For an established ICE manufacturer I assume their production of any one model is high? You would assume they could ramp up EV production to the same level if required?
