Sorry to read about Steve's accident and that his new Tesla is most likely a write-off, but great that he and his daughter weren't injured. The value of Steve's Tesla dashcam video is illustrated by this case and shows why we should all have one (see this further posting):

A pretty good video 👍🏻

This is obviously a subjective view, but I don't really get the "it's not an engaging drive" spiel. I'm not a professional driver and I'm one of those early 30s millennials that's only ever driven auto cars, so maybe I've got basic experience...but I really enjoy and look forward to driving now, even my daily commute to work. Taking my Model 3 through the windy roads and the overtaking lanes up hills to get to work is fun!

The only other thing was charging. Yes, he does rave about how easy it is to charge a Tesla, but he could have made it even easier! There's no need to touch anything on the car or your phone to prepare the car to charge or stop charging - just press the button on the charge cable and it will either open the charge port or it will stop charging and release the cable.

I think he was a bit wrong about the efficiency of the dual motor vs single motor. There is a long range RWD Model 3 in the US (it was the only version they made for around the first year of the car) and it tends to get better efficiency ratings than the dual motor version. The comparison with the Model S doesn't quite work because its front motor has always been tuned different than the rear so the car will switch to the more efficient front motor when it's at highway speeds and the rear motor is mostly idle. In the Model 3 it's almost the reverse - most of the power comes from the rear motor so the front motor is extra weight to carry around.

The joys of having a spouse and kid, and rebuilding a Tesla.

Tesla ruined my car and it’s the best thing to ever happen to me!

With my damaged Tesla Model 3 now in a mandatory 4 week lockdown at a repair yard in Tauranga.....I'm driving my 30kWh Nissan LEAF again.

I recently had its battery replaced with a newer one, so the range is somewhat improved. That's nice.

But with the covid-19 virus lockdown now in place, the only place we can go is the local supermarket less than 2km away...and only go a couple of times / week.

There's a very good chance the charge in my LEAF will last the entire 4 weeks. So far, so good. Plus I charge my EV from solar....so marginal cost is zero.

In this environment......*any* EV is awesome. :-)

Is this whole thing your doing? Since you're not able to drive your Model 3, no one else is allowed to drive theirs anymore either? 😜

I've had to settle with a spirited 50km/h drive to the supermarket and back...

Fuel glut to cost NZ millions. In a nutshell, the tanks are full, and we have to pay boats not to come in to port.

If only there were some way to power our transport that we could just dial back when we didn't need it...

...or didn't need boats to bring it to us at all, especially from countries where the revenue supports dictators and human rights abuses.

It does seem strange how the anti-EV brigade are so darned keen to financially support OPEC.  Meanwhile I'm supporting domestic energy production while also saving money.  I've now added ~45,000km to the Odometer of my Leaf, I've saved quite a bit just on commuting to work and back.

Lamborghini Aventador vs NEW Tesla Model S Performance: DRAG RACE!

carwow

Yianni is BACK, and he's brought his Aventador S Roadster with him! It's packing a 6.5-litre V12 under the bonnet, which can produce 740hp and 690Nm! But this isn't the first time one of his Lamborghinis has gone up against a Tesla, and this time, he might have met his match in the Model S Performance! With its dual electric motors it brings 825hp and an epic 1,300Nm! But will it prove too heavy weighing in at 2,241Kg? There's only one way to find out... LET'S RACE!
