gzt: Distance all up is a bit over 2000km. The record established iwill be a useful yardstick for both range and availability of charging stations.

Real time availability of charging stations can be seen here 24/7

Although I don't think the Chargenet map included the Tesla specific chargers ....

PlugShare is a better view of chargers across NZ (and worldwide) as it's network independent

Also, for those wanting to follow the EV Record drive, here is the latest GPS tracking link

Pretty Meh, I mean that tag line is "Norway is beating us" "we have to crush them"... Yeah I know its Will Ferrell, but it just comes across as totally try hard...

The cinematic short is a product of Jeremy Heslup, of Valkyr Productions; they self-funded its production to show what they’re capable of.

Mr. E struggles to find purpose in a constantly changing world.

Texas power outages got me thinking of "Vehicle to Grid"," V2G

I'm not sure how applicable this UK (and Nissan Leaf) to NZ.

Vehicle to Grid - The Complete Installation Story

ElectrAA

The complete installation story for the first 62kWh Nissan Leaf to be connected to the UK National Grid. Worcester, United Kingdom.

Teams from Kier, Western Power, Kaluza and OVO Energy came together seamlessly to make this a remarkably smooth installation - especially given that our electricity supply had to be disconnected from our neighbour before work on the V2G installation could commence.

From 2016

Tesla Chief Technology Officer J.B. Straubel, at 27:00 mark

“About using vehicles as a buffer for renewable energy, this is definitely something that’s coming, and I think there’s two ways to implement this.

“The first is to use dynamic charging. This is essentially intelligently commanding when the vehicles absorb their energy from the grid, you know, to match up with when you have renewable energy available or cheap. You know, this is something we can do very easily with just essentially software and controls — we don’t have to change any hardware, and there’s no additional regulatory or certification work needed. It’s just essentially controlling the timing of when something otherwise would happen.

“If we want to actually send energy back from the car to the electricity grid, this gets much more complex, and, you know, that’s something that I don’t see being a very economic or viable solution — perhaps ever, but certainly not in the near term. You know, the additional wear and tear and degradation on your vehicle battery has a fairly high cost, and many of the people and small businesses looking at this today, you know, don’t take into account fully that degradation cost, and also the additional interconnection cost, because if you interconnect your vehicle, you do have regulations that play a part — it has to interconnect in the same way that a solar system would on someone’s home or on a business, which have different standards so that they can protect line operators and people on the grid.”

I just know we'll not be in a position where all households will be able to afford a BEV for quite some time, so surely during this period of transition it's better they are enticed towards a more efficient (hybrid) car than end up with a straight ICE vehicle?

I think so. If a hybrid uses 20% less fuel, 5 of them equals one BEV. Im not really in favour of Suzuki Swifts getting a subsidy, rather the buyer who cant afford too much buys an import hybrid of that size

Also, we still don’t have BEVs of all the vehicle types people need. We probably don’t have hybrid versions of them either but it’s probably easier to create them than worthwhile battery ones with battery technology where it is just now.

Apologies if this has already been mentioned, but 6 Tesla Superchargers have been installed at the Countdown Johnsonville main carpark. These are backing on to the businesses on Disraeli Street.

When I saw them on Sunday, the charger's were in position, but still fenced off.

They're waiting on the local lines company to run a cable from the local transformer. Good to finally have a Supercharger in Wellington now...many Tesla models should now be able to jump on the ferry with a full charge and go non-stop from Picton to Christchurch

A couple of EV reviews out of AutoCar UK

Audi e-tron Sportback v Jaguar I Pace v Mercedes EQC

Review of the new Audi E-Tron GT. If you think it looks a lot like the Porsche Taycan, it's because, underneath, it's the same platform.
