So its more than just $300 for a caravan plug, the above is $500. What's the advantage of that over something like this https://oemaudio.co.nz/electric-vehicle-charging-products/eo-ev-mini-charger-32-amp-black (which is slightly more expensive at $1000+$200 for a cable), but gives a dedicated charger that just need a cable, and its 32amp vs. 16amp. Is it just down to cost or is there more than that?
A 32-amp EVSE not only costs more to begin with but will also require more extensive installation as you probably don't have a 40A circuit in standard house or garage wiring, but you will have at least one 20A circuit already. The $500 one - which I'm pretty sure you could convince the dealer to throw in for free on top of the cost of a $40K+ vehicle - is portable, which means if you are going away on holiday you can use it overnight at a powered caravan site as I have done on two long road trips (and I note the usual objection to buying an EV is "but I drive from Cape Rienga to the Bluff twice a day every weekend so EVs suck!").
I guess it's up to you but personally I would find the extra-expensive one's potentially faster charging of limited value vs. the portability of the other one. A daily 110km commute to Newmarket and back only uses about 22kWh so even the original 8A charger I have sufficed most days. The average daily commute in NZ is less than 25km.
