Funny review. full of non-sequiturs.

She mentioned in passing the Hamburglar, for reasons completely unknown to me. It goes back to the 1970's, which has got to be before she was born.

Then in another non-sequitur mentions ASMR, when pointing out structural ribbing.

BYD Atto, rather than Alto (or that may be autocorrect on your device; iOS tried to change it from Atto to Attorney!)

Not available for at least five months, but buyers can put down a deposit

I wouldn't hold my breath on Nexport, until they actually start selling.

A year ago they were still talking about $700 million investment in electric buses that fell through.

ABC, AU : Nexport dumps plans for Southern Highlands electric vehicle manufacturing plant

The $700 million development was proposed to help transition the state's fleet of buses to zero-emissions technology
The company says it failed to secure certainty about the project from the state government

In 2020, Nexport announced it would build the factory on 51 hectares of land at Moss Vale to electrify the state's fleet of 8,000 buses.

I was under the opinion that as a car got heavier, its tendency hydroplane reduced, since their tires have more force.

kingdragonfly: I was under the opinion that as a car got heavier, its tendency hydroplane reduced, since their tires have more force.

From memory, while weight is a factor (lighter is worse), hydroplaning is more affected by speed, water depth, tread depth and style, tire pressure and any contaminants.

I read that the Model Y runs a tire pressure of 42psi so using a rule of thumb (sqrt(tire press) x 10) means a hydroplaning speed would be about 65mph. In the video the driver said he was doing 5mph below the speed limit. Maybe the limit on that piece of road was 70mph. But lots of other factors also to consider.

was just comparing specs of the Ioniq 5 vs EV6 and both cars don't give you a heatpump unless you buy the most expensive model.

who pays $120k for a Kia / Hyundai

Huh, I hadn't realised that. Yet you get a heat pump as standard with the $60k Model 3.

Our 2013 mid-spec Leaf has a heat pump!

It always makes me laugh to find out how one needs to either select a high grade or pay more for this feature in many expensive EVs.

my 2013 leaf with heatpump (and steering wheel heater and front and rear seats heater) is cheaper than my mountain bike. sold the mountain bike to buy the leaf.

Considering Hyundai has a Palisade offering at the top end around this place, and don't seem to have many problems shifting those, I'd say "heaps of people who aren't badge snobs".

i guess there is some hope for me to score a used kia ev6 GT then

(i have to confess i have not seen a palisade on the road even once, so the heaps of people buying it probably don't live in the lower south island)

They are absolutely enormous. Kia equivalent is the Telluride (not sold locally). Ironically the Ioniq 5 has a similar wheelbase but none of the huge overhangs.

The other thing that helps with the price point is the new Euro EVs here are either not supplied into market (ID3, ID4) yet and the ones that are here are older (E-Tron 55) and moonbeams. So there's a decent $50K price gap between the top-spec Ioniq and an equivalent E-Tron Audi SUV that doesn't go as far and still runs a 400v system.
