USA is hardly isolated gas prices are a huge point right now there
From a consumer POV yes, but from an economy POV its essentially its internal transfer from Consumer to Business,
as opposed to a huge Foreign exchange outflow like it used to be...

EY report release date was 23 May. Does not give an "as at" (or if it does, I missed it) but is presumably based on survey data from a month or so before then?
Related EY reports are (include?):

The latter two contain additional interesting data.

RobDickinson:Aussie is the one with real gas supply issues as they are too busy exporting it as LNG and forgot to hold back enough for domestic supply in the Eastern states.

Odd Lots podcast by Bloomberg: Why It's So Hard to Get the Oil Taps Turned Back On
On this episode, we speak to longtime energy investor and industry participant Peter Tertzakian about the reality on the ground. He explains that there are numerous operational factors constraining oil supply, including degraded quality of equipment and a shortage of labor, not to mention a reluctance among investors to splurge on new production. We discuss the specific constraints, as well as what it will take to get supply going on.
The team discuss both gas & petrol, that oil demand will continue to increase for the next decade & what it will take for an orderly transition from ICE to EV.

New Zealand pricing for the all-electric ATTO 3 SUV starts at $52,990 for the standard range and tops out at $57,990 for the extended range, plus on road costs

Interesting. Another affordable (by EV standards) option.
I wonder how far the Atto 4 (Seal) will be behind it? Because that looks like a winner.
The interiors are a bit ‘different’, but then so are Teslas I guess.

Atto:
Dimensions 4455 x 1875 x 1615 mm space:, 434 L / 1330 L
https://zecar.com/post/byd-atto-3-price-and-specs-detailed-for-australia
Model Y:
(4,750 mm)* (1,920 mm) *(1,623 mm) space: 854 L/ 1,869 litres
So compared to the Y the Atto is a foot shorter and its boot space is 1/2 the size ( seats up )
So as others have said, its in the small SUV class

ATTO 3 vs MG ZS. Unfortunately does not discuss size, leg room etc
Verdict
The BYD Atto 3 is potentially cheaper, packs more standard features, is more powerful, and offers a long driving range for its top variant at a very reasonable price.
Then again, MG has an established track record in Australia already. It can be experienced and purchased through a traditional dealer channel, the current ZS has proved popular and this new one is also capable of charging faster than its rival.
BYD in NZ will be sold through traditional dealer channels and demo stock hopefully in July. Someone has posted RRPs above. Dealers are on the BYD site, has main centres covered but just 1 south island dealer for now.

Well I've registered for a test drive because the size of the car seems about right for what I want. The main question would be is the driving position high enough.

I keep hearing we need to wait until the established makers like Toyota that know what they're doing when it comes to cars start making EVs...only to hear that Toyota has had to recall their first EV due to the potential for the wheels to fall off 😬
yes we we hoping for better but instead of making things better they either copy Tesla or make things worse

I assume the “hub bolt” that has caused the recall is not solely something an EV has. Just an automotive part that has been incorrectly engineered in this case.
What I found more interesting in the article is that the majority of the vehicles were going to European markets. It smacks of a compliance vehicle more than a serious attempt to evolve its fleet.
