I saw this in the U.K. press today. Did similar reductions occur here? (Note - approximately double the numbers to get nz $)

“The largest cut in price has been for the Model Y Performance, which fell by £8,000 to £59,990, while the cheapest Model Y fell £7,000 to £44,990.

Tesla’s Model 3’s long-range model fell by £6,500 to £50,990, while its entry-level variant fell £5,500 to £42,990.

The Model 3 now costs less than rivals like the Kia EV6 and Polestar 2, while a Model Y is now just £2,000 more than the cheapest Skoda Enyaq 80, according to electric car comparison site Electrifying.com.”

In summary though, NZ prices dropped less than UK/Europe because they were already lower. The most glaring example to me was a YouTuber giving prices (prior to the price drop) in the UK for the single motor Model 3 that were almost the same as the dual motor Model 3 Performance could be ordered for in NZ.

Forbes : Despite Tesla woes, Foxconn and Qualcomm are Investing in EV and maybe you should too

During the January 5-8, 2023 Computer and Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, many executives shared with me their marketing strategies for accelerating the world’s adoption of electric vehicles (EV).

Meanwhile during CES, Tesla shares sank to their lowest levels since 2020 as Wall Street reacted to the latest news indicating “lagging demand for its electric vehicles.”

But a large part of recent Tesla stock sell-offs can be attributed to CEO Elon Musk’s actions at Twitter; one prominent analyst says that Tesla still has “exponentially more growth ahead of it than behind it.”

The exponential growth potential is why tech giants such as Foxconn, the world’s largest technology manufacturer, and Qualcomm, traditionally known as a chip company for smartphones, are betting big on EV.

Before incentives in either country and including tax, the NZ RWD Model 3 is still nearly £5,000 cheaper than in the UK. The US also just had price reductions and our RWD Model 3 is still around US$4,000 cheaper here (before incentives in either country). It's not often NZ gets to say they have the cheaper prices!

Except almost all the vehicles that outsold the EVs are diesel utes…….

NZ is such a small market, it is easy for percentages to get distorted.

I’ve started applying the ‘fanboi filter’ to Sam’s videos.

I have yet to meet anyone who owns an EV. Hybrids seem far more popular although that might be a factor of not living in an urban location.

Note also that the U.K. prices include VAT/GST at 20% rather than our 15%.

Depends on the circles you move in.

In my department of 60 there are 12 EV almost all urban leafs. Only one one of whom could be called a greenie. All Are using them as second car for round town. Aka mums car. Oh and I think one BYD turned up at end of department Xmas bbq

There are 4 EV on my street within 100m. 3 leafs and a honda e.

And I know another ppl 4 with teslas and one electric jag.

I don't know anyone with hybrid.

While sat in my Leaf waiting for kid to finish a particular class I counted EVs with my other kid, 100 cars driving past.

4/100 were EV. All were Leaf. You won't believe how many utes with number plates N & P.

Also, anyone here can back up the statistic of 21%?

He must be counting hybrids as EVs?

Watch the video again. Electric Viking is at pains to differentiate between BEVs, PHEVs and 'self charging' hybrids.

Also I'm seeing a good percentage of EVs in surrounding traffic and despite knowing more than the average bear about EVs I'm aware there are plenty of EVs I'm failing to ID as EVs. I'm thinking that you and your kid's amateur poll may well be missing plenty.

Cost vs Benefit I imagine.
