The ADAS (well, the software generally) on the BYD range is by far the worst part of owing one. It's got a long way to do to come anywhere near Tesla and I've never even owned a Tesla. Signed, a Dolphin owner.

National’s quiet U-turn on $247m EV charger pledge
Before the election, Luxon laid the blame on his political opponents, saying: “Under the Labour Government, investment in public EV infrastructure has not kept pace with the rising number of EVs and New Zealand now has the fewest public chargers per electric vehicle in the OECD.”
We will have even less now...
Shocked, shocked, well not that shocked etc.

Normally a “U-Turn” involves a 180 degree change in direction. So perhaps a “slowdown” would be a more appropriate turn of phase since they aren’t advocating removal of existing chargers. Ultimately, whatever it is called, it is a disappointment for those who want the infrastructure built.
Might be interesting to chart expansion of the charging network compared to growth in EV numbers since 1 Jun 24 when the incentives of a rebate (1 Jan 24) and tax free driving (1 April 24 + grace period) had both disappeared. I’d suggest one has increased modestly, while the other has flatlined.

I think it is a fair description of a government that thinks it knows the cost of everything, but has no idea of the value of anything. Their actions in reducing our emissions and hastening our electrification are worse than useless, they are actively obstructing many of the required actions.

Looks like EV owners are gonna get slugged another $60 a year, as they get moved to the same levy rates as ICE vehicles,
(although as ICE drivers pay a portion of their ACC via fuel taxes, EV owners will get slugged all of that through an upfront levy jump)
More incompetence from one of the worst transport and ACC ministers we've had in a while. The levy should reflect the risk. A key determinant of risk is the amount of km driven, so a pay as you go would be a fairer and workable system.

The bit highlighted above sums it perfectly.

So what I'm hearing is that it's ok they are spending less on EV infrastructure than they promised because their other policies have killed EV growth so we don't need it anyway.

Drives me nuts.
The radar cruise control is the worst I have ever used, but from what I have seen in reviews, that doesn't seem to be the case in the Shark ute.

I turn as much off as I can in my Atto3.

From my small test drive, the adaptive cruise control and the lane keeping was pretty good. Something I noted was when two motorway lanes merged into one, the truck just gently merged into the middle of the single lane following the right hand white line (I was in the right lane before the merge). I didn’t get a chance to try merging from the left lane. In a similar circumstance, my Tesla dives across as soon as the middle line disappears, so that it is in the centre of the two converging side lines.

you still have to charge it up, so heavily restricted by where suitable charging stations are. certainly could be very useful for the golden triangle. but of course charging one is ok, charging a whole fleet is a massive problem.
the next gen batteries would certainly improve its range or efficiency but charging infrastructure is still the Achilles heal.

Golden triangle?
The "Golden Triangle" – the term economic commentators use to describe the geographic area bound up by Auckland, Hamilton and Tauranga
Tauranga port, Hamilton container storage, Auckland consumer. one of the major trucking routes. ev trucks are much more suited to fixed known routes rather than general trucking.

I wonder what % of total truck journeys/Kms are just in this golden triangle....?

good question, i have no idea. i would guess its a fair amount being the biggest market and two ports. more and more logistic and manufacturing companies are building in that area.
