Not a biggie in my view. Without Google maps, my experience is that it's pretty hard to get lost when on the expressway (-;

Except for a section of road just south of Mackay's crossing where the Transmission Gully expressway merges with the old coastal route, north to the Poplar Avenue interchange where the Kapiti expressway branches away from the old SH1.

You're talking about a piece of road which is no more than 1k long, is two lanes each way, properly separated from the other side, with a decent hard shoulder on it as well.

I doubt even kiwi drivers could manage to drive badly enough to block that. How is it any worse than the existing Centennial Highway ? That's single lane for 10kms with absolutely no option to get off if it's blocked.

Not worth worrying about if you ask me.

I agree,staying in the expressway is simple, but ask google maps now to plot you a route from Wellington to (say) "Harrison's Country Garden World" in Peka Peka and take a look at the results!  U-Turn on SH1?! ... no worries mate :-) .... I'm sure the detail will get sorted in time

Aaaand it's live. No Kapiti/Te Moana Rd interchanges yet.

Changes were made by Google 17-19 hours ago.

Interchanges now showing as well.

Unfortunately the interchanges don't work as intended (yet) - they aren't connected to the local roads (Kapiti/Te Moana) so therefore of not much use at the moment.

For example make the starting point New World Paraparaumu or Mitre 10 Mega, and make the destination Waikanae Beach Takeaways or LongBeach Cafe. Note how you are given directions to drive on the old State Highway - moving the marker from the old State Highway/Kapiti Road intersection to the Kapiti Road expressway on-ramp gives you directions to travel the entire expressway.

Even without Google maps, the cafes at Waikanae Beach are seeing significant increase in business, courtesy of the expressway.
