So I bought a Mitsubishi Outlander 2007 today, and the GPS system is obviously in Japanese along with the radio frequencies. I am wondering if there is anyway to change this to English without having to pull it apart! Any advice would be appreciated.

Pulling it apart is unlikely to do anything..Pulling it out and replacing it is the best option.

Yup, theyre not always a true GPS anyway, they use some other system as well over there which isnt available in NZ. Throw it out and buy a new unit.

There is a company in Hawkes bay somewhere that does translate some units, but I think cost wise, buying new would be cheaper and get you NZ FM bands.

Even if you could get it into English , it would not have any nz maps to tell you where you are.
In the long run its Probably easier to replace it ...

Not sure about Mitsubishi. But I just off the Skype session with USA wrecker in regards to Nissan Leaf units. Their us site said heaps in stock, the reality is - nothing....

It seems some AV units with embedded GPS are popular in there as those can be reused even in different models/makes.

Things to check/be aware of with swaps to after market units - sometimes AV units in modern cars are integrated into CAN bus and some functionality may be lost if swapped for aftermarket.

FM in USA AV units is only compatible with Wellington/Kapiti FM stations. For Auckland you would need 0.1Mhz shifter.
