Apparently there is a Tesla 3 already in New Zealand, according to Electrek these photos were taken at Auckland Airport.

Much will depend on the X-rate from the US$ closer to the time.

We're pretty steady around 72-74 cents US at present.....though you have to add GST, too...and that's on top of the margin. So yeah....not hard to blow the number up higher.

Assume the margin is already in the NZ$48,000 number....and add GST. That's $55,200 right there for the most basic version.....and I haven't added shipping (and that attracts GST, too).

A Model 3 at $60k would be acceptable. :-)

Who knows? Maybe a new government will introduce rebates or tax credits or some other thing to encourage people to go electric and cut NZ's dependence on expensive foreign energy.

I had my reservation before April 1st, so should get the self-driving for free.....but I would want a bigger battery so will pay more for that. The rest? Not fussed.

They were.....he posted them in the NZ EV Owners group on Facebook first then they were picked up by overseas media.

You can just make out an Air NZ koru on the top of the tail of a plane in the first photo....(I removed it from my reply).

Would those things be allowed on a plane with such a big battery?

I remember seeing somewhere there is a limit on the size of a powerbank that you can take onto an aircraft

Maybe it was a freight / charter flight. They would have different rules to passenger carriers.

I need the first production one to be sold in july, there's a $20 bet with my boss in it for me.  Looking like I might take that out.

The NZ price is not economical enough to compete with petrol at this stage, which is unfortunate.  It's more of a gadget or green buy, than a cost to run buy.  Even then I wonder what the carbon footprint of manufacture and delivery is in comparison to the carbon footprint of operating a petrol engine for a while.

I'm seeing Teslas everywhere all of a sudden. Am positive I saw a model3 the other day. Definitely had the Tesla T on it and was smaller than the S and X.

Dont know about the model 3 - But have definitely noticed several Teslas here in Auckland in the last few weeks - the X and the S models.

Could be the same vehicles I keep seeing (I should really take notice)- but I guess they are officially sold here now - so could be we start to see a few more on the road.

Possibly headed here http://www.shpg.co.nz/ for some last minute winter testing?,

Its Summer in the Nth Now, so if they have any last minute changes  theywant to winter test before deliveries, its about the only place they could take it....

Slightly off topic but does anyone know what the Hyundai Ioniq costs?

A stuff article earlier this year suggested $60k but who knows if that is accurate.

I couldn't see the price on Hyundai's website or on the show car they had at WLG last week.

Unusual, because Hyundai provides the price for their other cars.

Buried in the T&Cs of the Ioniq finance offer is this

"Offer is based on $59,990.00 plus $990 on road costs"

Best rumour I heard was testing the final version in winter conditions.....down south. Might, at the same time, be doing some checking for local regulatory approvals needed later on.
