We all need to pay our way. But they had damn well better create an EV class on the schedule because a) your average EV doesn't create anywhere near as much road damage as a 3.5 ton diesel truck, and b) it ought to be priced in such a way as to recognise the carbon costs that ICE vehicles should be incurring by comparison.

I don't think that it's as much about damage to the road as just taking up space on the road... a car takes up almost as much space as a truck, by the time you allow for following distances and such.

Road User charges should be the cost of using the road, not the cost of polluting the environment. Costs of pollution and the effects it has can be added to the fuel cost for ICEVs.

It was a tongue in cheek comment which was taking a small dig at those that wanted something for nothing. I know it's not true of most EV drivers BUT some do seem to give the impression they are saving the world and need to be venerated for that.

This sounds like your spin.

Many EV drivers do thinks it fair to recognise the free ride ICE cars get for their emissions while EV drivers have personally decided to spend more money to reduce / eliminate their emissions.... For the benefit of everyone.

My apologies. The ability to discern sarcasm and satire from reality has sadly been greatly eroded by the latter half of the 2010s.

These comments are my own and do not represent the opinions of 2degrees.
