I'm contemplating another new car purchase. Revisiting my thread from earlier this year, a number of people recommended a Mazda 2, that's mainly what I'd like to hear about.

After doing a lot of reading about dual clutch transmission (Getrag 6DCT250), I was fascinated by it and made enquiries with Ford, who assured me from 2017 models there wouldn't be dramas like before as they have upgraded seals etc, and for peace of mind come with 7 year unlimited km warranty. So I decided to buy one, just in time for their summer specials where I could get a Fiesta Trend for $19990. However the finance charges are killer, Ford being one of the highest at the moment, I've made enquiries with various dealers, lowest I can get is 7.95%, but adding $3-$4000 to the cost is too high, when the summer price runs to end of year and I could possibly pay cash by then and avoid the finance.

All the stalling trying to find a decent finance arrangement, lead me to look at Mazda 2. Specifically a GLX manual. Mazda offer 3.9% which drastically lowers the cost, but there local dealership currently is offering 0% 1/3s until end of month, which will only cost $400 odd. So that's what I'll be aiming for I think.

I just wondered based on what a few GZers have said, whether since $21945 is RRP, whether if I waited and paid cash I'd expect some discount on the price. I'm not after a discount on the price, but the way some people talk is like it's a given when buying a new car?

You should ask for a discount, especially if you let them know you're pretty keen on the Fiesta (and tell them , the Swift).

It won't matter that you are financing it (some dealerships prefer finance as they make money there too).

At least push for accessories - don't pay On-Roads, get mats etc.

Getting a discount on more expensive vehicles is very common, but for a $22k vehicle there wouldn't be a huge amount of margin bearing in mind that Mazda will already be offering you 3 years of free scheduled servicing. Also, there isn't really anything on the market that would undercut the Mazda2 with equivalent quality and specification.

Try your luck, but be realistic.
