Calling any motor home owners/users here. We are considering buying a motor home.what are you experienced, what brands/models do folks recommend. What to look out for and what gotchas to be weary of.

We are considering at least a 2+ to 4 berth self contained.

We considered this ourselves, and had a look around last year. NZ built TrailLite is our preference. We decided that we could get a whole heap of holiday time in nice hotels/cruise ships/etc, for the $150,000-$250,000 cost of a nice motor home. So, while we can still see a bit of the world the motor home is on the back burner. We will visit the idea again, but it's off the table for now.

Keep calm, and carry on posting.

We love travelling NZ. We are also looking at renting it when we are not using it and doing swaps with overseas owners.

We have not tried one yet but we did a lot of camping over the years. We do need to consider disability issues.

I don't know much about your disability, but I would have thought given the flare ups, a motorhome would be out of the question. They require a fair bit of mobility. Not saying it can't be done, but for a lot of people a motor home is a romantic notion (like laptops for working away from the office) for most people who minimize the downsides because they like the idea so much.

Rather than purchasing one, why don't you rent one, even if it's expensive, and see how a few weeks goes?

If it goes well, look into more permanent solutions.

I have a friend who wanted to buy a boat. We talked him out of it. He then invested in a share of a boat through one of the few systems around, and once the romance wore off, he didn't have a 100K millstone round his neck.

I try not to allow my condition to define mean what I do. We have been keen sailors for years. And we caped for many years using tents, however we are wanting dryer warmer camping and our own facilities. We do intend to rent one for a holiday.
